Has anyone said that the team has let us down?

You go on molmix, are you saying that nobody is ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This isn't MolMix, so it's a bit random to post it here without any context.

Plus, can someone tell me what an "inverted wide midfielder" is? Now we're talking about heat maps. What happened to the good ol' game go football?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Inverted means that the player plays on the opposite side to their stronger foot and therefore spend more time cutting inside and playing narrower. It's always existed in some form in the wide positions throughout football. Many of the classic teams used this sort of position.

Heat maps have also been used for decades. You're just old and don't like change.

So Max Kilman was an inverted defender when he was playing on the right side of a back three. Riiggghhhht, now I get it .

Plus, once I see a heat map that shows a significant amount of red in our opponents penalty area, you can shove it, as it's completely irrelevant.

One stat. I have found out, is that we have only lost 1 game since our return to the top flight when leading 2-0 and that was against Leeds. So it just shows how important it is for us to get that second goal. If only!!!

No. Kilman was playing centre back not out wide. We're going back to your lack of understanding of the difference between a centre back and a full back again.

Generally, to be inverted you need to start from a wide position. So, when Jonny played narrower as a wing back on the left; he may have been classed as inverted as he is right footed.

Man City regularly play with inverted fullbacks, that take up central midfield positions when they have possession. Zinchenko regularly does this for Arsenal. Teams regularly play with inverted wide midfielders and forwards, particularly to allow space for full backs in attacking wide positions and to support a lone striker. It's an incredibly common thing that most football fans should be able to understand.

As for heat maps, I'm not sure why you are going on about them if you're not bothered. They weren't brought up in a conversation with you. If you are unable to see how they would be useful to look at positions players take up in possession, then I think that only reflects negatively on you.

You said to be inverted, then a player has to be playing on the opposite side of their stronger foot, so it doesn't mater whether Kilman was playing as a centre back or not, he's left footed. The problem with you kids, is that the game of football is not complicated. The idea is and always has been, to score more goals than your opponents. So you can dump your heat maps, inverted players and any other modern terms or systems. All I want, is for the team I've supported as a kid, to win more games and score more goals than what we're doing at the moment.

It's not rocket science.

Yeah, we all want that.

Anyway, I'll leave it there. I have better things to do than humour an old fart who is longing for the good old days whilst bemoaning today's youth.

Our old midfielder Kevin McDonald is 34 now but still playing football despite having a kidney transplant in 2021. He now plays for Exeter and scored for them today

Well I'm only going by what I heard from a neutrals perspective on the radio, their view was that the most likely results were a draw followed by a Fulham win going in to the last 10 minutes. The stats indicate also that Fulham had the edge in possession, shots and shots on target. I suspect at half time the stats looked much more favorable for us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not disputing at all that Fulham put us on the back foot for spells in the second half. They are a good team and 6th and forced us back as you would expect at some stages. I was just quibbling about your comment that we ‘let’ them back into it which gives a very different impression.

Apart from their goal which came out of nowhere I think there were only two clear cut chances in the second half. One that Sa saved brilliantly at the end and one that Raul headed inches wide
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My point really was that if you don't take advantage of your dominance and kill off the game while you're ahead, you're going to give your opponent an opportunity to get back in to the game. It's been our problem for too long now, no matter how well we play we can't convert the dominance in to goals, unless we're playing Liverpool of course.

Today's results have concertina'd the table at the bottom again, just three points covering the six clubs between 19th and 14th. And just two more to 12th. Villa look like they're pulling away from danger now. Imagine if it remains this tight right up to the end of the season, not sure my nerves will take it

The frustration of losing to Bournemouth last weekend

Can’t argue with that oldgold. At half time on here I said the question mark was whether we could get the second goal we would probably need to win the game. And of course yet again we didn’t

I think the bottom 4 now will be the bottom 4 at the end of the season to be honest. Only team I think may get drawn in is Forest.

At the moment I'm about 75% certain that we'll be ok but the lack of goals is still a nagging concern.

posted on 26/2/23

The performance we gave in the first hour at the weekend looked s million miles away from that of a relegation team but not turning that into three points by being able to score a second goal is still holding us back. Certainly not impossible that we will lose the two games we play this week and that would lead us to be looking over our shoulders again

We just need to follow wolfie’s innovative advice of scoring more goals and winning more football matches.

You youngsters are over complicating things.

Talksport evidently reporting that we “let” them back into the game and “dropped” two points.

Fabio started for PSV today. Scored after 9 minutes.

posted on 26/2/23

No doubt in my mind he would have helped us more this season than Jimenez and Costa have done

posted on 26/2/23

Have to agree, he certainly couldn’t be any worse.
We do daft things at times.

Wolfie said at the time (sorry Cinci) that is was a bad loan deal. Once again the wily ole wolf has the last laugh. 🤡

looks like Van Nistelrooy has ripped up his system to accommodate Fabio which is fantastic news. Fingers crossed he has a cracking end to the season. Would make our lives easier.

posted on 27/2/23

Psv haven’t ripped up their system they have needed to find a striking partner to play with De Jong because they sold Gakpo to Liverpool for £40m in January. After 3 or 4 games from the bench Fabio has now been given his chance and seems to be taking it

posted on 27/2/23

Not sure that warranted such a defensive response.

Gakpo played on the left for PSV, not as a strike partner. Looks like Silva played on the left of a front three from watching the highlights, which is interesting. Kind of like an inside forward, which will please Wolfie.

posted on 27/2/23

Van Nistelrooy certainly isn't afraid to try new systems, and it's pleasing to see that he has ripped up his old one to accommodate Fabio (sorry DJ) as an inverted striker. (sorry wolfie)

posted on 27/2/23

In his games over the last year, Gakpo had played 18 times as an attacking left sided midfield player, 14 times as a left sided forward, and 13 times as a central striker. Fabio yesterday played as a left sided forward

posted on 27/2/23

Don't think anybody is disputing that Gakpo leaving has self evidently forced RVN into ripping up his old system, and finding innovative ways to accommodate Fabio.
