It won’t be forever. He’ll end up in prison one day, a leopard doesn’t change its spots. Sadly I have seen this sort of thing pan out right in front of me

It happened to my cousin. She was in an abusive relationship, she lived with the guy and had 2 kids with him so couldn’t get out of it, as much as we wanted her too. The guy pulled a knife on her in front of a cashier at a Tesco and when the police arrived, nothing happened, they were allowed to go home together. 2 weeks later she was dead.

Back in the day, her brothers and cousins would have taken her away from the situation and drowned the slaaaag if he tried any knife stuff.
