As much as Casemiro rules the midfield, we cannot count on him playing 2 matches per week, and he will get some suspensions as well. We need another DCM to back him up and play alongside him in certain matches. That surely has to be a priority. With him we are 9/10 and without him 7/10 tops.

I wouldn’t buy into the suspension point too much. His red against Palace was the first of his career.

Good managers make players look better.

Suddenly AWB doesn’t look like a complete liability, l for example.

Not saying the players aren’t quality, but I think ETH is playing a big part in the perception as well.

when a football club finally starts recruiting and building teams around players like Martinez and Casemiro, instead of a long list of mercenaries, typified by the likes of Pogba and Ronaldo, things are going to change for the better. And they are.

Not reeeaaally.

in no particular order (other than alphabetical) the required 'quality' for a league challenge in the squad is:

Casemiro
DvdB
Eriksen
Fernandes
Fred
Maguire
Martinez
Shaw
Varane

at least two of those are pretty much 'stop gap' acquisitions - only there til younger equivalents are found, and none of those are currently "World Class" - whatever vague and un-quantifiable idea that is supposed to convey.

For a start, not one current United player would get an unchallenged selection (for their position) in a 'world XI' picked to play their equivalents from another planet (for example).

Not that that is particulalry important, MUFC have won many league titles (and ECL finals) with teams that are also not staffed by the best in the world, but just work very, very, well as a team.

They are, however, at least the basis of a starting point.

The rest are just either 'jobbing' contributors and/or squad player level only.

It's not enough

Let's not, as followers of the greatest football club in the English league system, be foolish enough to do the same things as the followers of the lesser Lancashire team (LFC in case we forget) and start pretending a relatively short run of good results (welcome as they are) equates to the team suddenly becoming full of "worldies" - or whatever bollicky epithet the drones want to apply this week.

It's not that long ago (less than a year) that the scouse tw@ts were claiming Salah was the contemporary embodiment of the likes of vintage Pele. United fans should be better than that.

feet on ground, head out of cloud, and eyes open.

In league challenging terms, there are gaps in some very important places. Fix em, then we, as followers, can start being a bit more hyperbolic

Some of that makes sense, some is just crazy

DDG, Varane, Martinez, Shaw and Casemiro could get in any side.

So would Rashford imo

At the moment. Needs a couple seasons of this form to be considered world class.

posted on 27/2/23

I think world class gets massively over used. Consistency makes world class. Messi has scored 50 goals a season on average for 14 years....that's world class to the extreme but a player has to be at the top level for several seasons to be deemed world class imo

I would also say United have conceded far too many goals this year to deem 4 of the back 5 world class.

Think those 7 would be quality squad options in a top, top team, but many wouldn't be in the first 11 of those top teams. Defo heading in the right direction but still a lot of work to be done.

Exactly. World class is a term that's subjective but I just feel it's based on consistency over seasons not current form. Dif markers I think but others would disagree I'm sure. United still have loads of dead wood they can cash in to strengthen further too.

We're challenging them now for the title with what we now have, let alone ... what we could have.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not yet. 8 points off top requires a 3 result swing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Arsenal have managed 7 points in the last 5, with United grabbing 10. With there still being 14 games to play, i'd say we're definitely in with a shout.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If we win our next 2 league games you'll be 14 points behind us before you play Liverpool. If you fail to beat Liverpool next weekend then the title race is surely over for you.

I wouldn’t be listening to your opinion on defenders

It was you going around telling everyone how great liverpools defenders were in the summer and Gomez who couldn’t get in your team would walk into most teams ….you plagued the Tottenham board telling us what we need and don’t need

How’s that turned out for you ?

Give me anyone of uniteds defenders over your lots any day of the week

Agree with you about world class players and consistency but I’d button it about how good uniteds defenders are

Turdpole trying to start arguments again. Laughable… the bloke runs away and hides when he gets proven wrong, or if his beloved bottlers Spurs lose a few games.

Poor bloke is a coward

Spurs fans really are a puddled lot LOL

Gomez is playing badly but was in a team competing on 4 fronts last season. He's won trophies. All of them at club level. Sure his form is bad at but who doesn't have bad form at Liverpool this year? Did United ditch rash ford when he got 5 goals last season?

And that amazing defence u say I shouldn't talk about, the irony that Liverpool have conceded just as many goals 😂 VVD just got voted best CB last year too so I'd say Liverpool defence was def decent last season.

It's a forum, not every one agrees. You've said plenty of dumb things. I just have no need to go back and bookmark it. What a complete toolbox 😂 I was even paying united a compliment.
