Listeria is a genus of bacteria that can cause a serious infection called listeriosis in humans and animals. The bacteria are commonly found in soil, water, and some animals, such as poultry and cattle. Listeria can also contaminate food products, particularly ready-to-eat foods that do not require cooking, such as deli meats, soft cheeses, and smoked seafood.

Listeria infections can range from mild to severe, and can be particularly dangerous for pregnant women, newborns, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and diarrhea. In severe cases, listeriosis can lead to sepsis, meningitis, and even death.

Prevention of listeria infections can be achieved through proper food handling and preparation. It is important to thoroughly cook meat and poultry, and to wash all fruits and vegetables before eating them. In addition, it is recommended to avoid consuming high-risk foods, such as unpasteurized dairy products, deli meats, and smoked seafood, unless they are heated to a safe temperature before consumption.

If you suspect that you have a listeria infection, it is important to seek medical attention immediately, particularly if you are pregnant or have a weakened immune system. Listeriosis can be treated with antibiotics, and early treatment can greatly improve the chances of a full recovery

You may have a stiff neck, headache, confusion, or loss of balance. Symptoms can appear as late as 2 months after you have eaten something with Listeria! 2 months!

In another news, if the SS Californian radio operator didn't go to bed and switch off the radio, most people on titanic would have saved.
