I think Martial will start v Brentford, don’t think ETH would be that arrogant/stupid to go with the big lump now we have a relatively fit mobile striker available,
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Depends on Martial's physical condition. If ETH is being advised that he can get 30 minutes out of him at the moment, and more than that risks aggravating injuries so he's out for another fortnight, then he has no choice.

I'd even possibly start dan james over Weghorst now. At least he has some pace.

we've sold him diafol, let it go

We desperately need some fluidity back in our transitions and counter attacks, I had/have high hopes for ETH but his obsession with Weghorst is really starting to worry me, if he is first on the team sheet against Brentford I will be stunned and more worried he has somehow lost the plot.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree, I really don't see what Weghorst brings. At the start he has at least helping us play some decent stuff but now he's offering nothing.

He's causing many of the same issues that Ronaldo was causing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Your ability to do a 180 is astonishing. Weghorst has been rotten for us for most games. Being carried by Casemiro and Rashford goals fooling people. When the going gets tough and Weghorst is who you turn to, that's when you know how poor a player you have.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How am I doing a 180 exactly?

This is absolutely not on Weghorst though (I'm not suggesting you think it is!). At least he's putting the effort in. Not his fault he's not really good enough. It's the manager that keeps picking him.

It's just this season, like a few seasons prior, we've gone into it without really good options up front. The club needs to address that over the Summer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
At least he's putting the effort in.

Why wouldn't he? If me and you today are given the chance to play at OT with our abilities, I would run until my foot bleeds because that is all I have. This is why we are going nowhere, club our size always banging on about a player putting in bloody effort. You get effort down the road going to watch lads playing sunday football.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's more a comment on some of the others than him.

I think he's at full capacity whereas some of the others not so. That's the point I'm making.

But Scholay at least show some consistency in your views. You were calling for a guy who was literally playing worse than Weghorst to be in our starting team.

We all know that Weghorst is not good enough.

We can not keep starting games with ten men. Weggers needs to be on the bench. This more than anything else is holding us back.

First time in many, many years we had a quality midfield, we played well and earned a lot of points. Midfield changes due to injuries & suspensions and the quality of play, goals and results all drop.

posted on 3/4/23

Talking of the midfield I don't think I'd be buying Sabitzer in the Summer. Well, not for the rumoured £20m anyway.

I think he's been rather unlucky that Casemiro has been suspended most of the time he's been at OT but I don't think he's done enough That could yet change of course but I'd say he's 4th choice now when everyone is fit. Perhaps he'd be better as a more advanced midfielder but Bruno nearly always plays.

However, you will beat Everton by 3 or 4 goals.

I thought he looked decent at the start but the more I watch the more he looks like a pretty average player. At 29 years old maybe we should pass on making him permanent.

It is called being looked at differently due to your body of work. Weghorst has been surplus to requirements when he arrived, he stank the place yesterday nothing has changed.

Looking at the next three league fixtures, anything short of nine points should be considered a disappointment.

Get those in the bag one way or another and we go into the Spurs game looking like a point makes us strong favourites for a top four finish (regardless of what Newcastle do).

Drop points in a couple of those games though and it will be squeaky bum time the whole run in.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not evening talking about the other parts of the squad that need strengthening, our midfield priorities are surely a deep-lying press-resistant playmaker, and a defensive screener who can cover for Casemiro. Maybe we can find a player who can be both Casemiro's partner and his replacement when he has kicked/strangled someone.

Sabitzer doesn't really fit either of those profiles, so I wouldn't go for him unless it's as an upgrade on McT and doesn't obstruct our other recruitment goals. Even then, the upgrade complicates things from the point of view of the home-grown players rule.

5 Touches in 42 minutes of football. A touch every 8.4 minutes! Even a Ronaldo that has nothing more to prove to anyone was this bad but carry on.

Just checked and Spurs have a couple of potential banana skins, including games against Brighton and Newcastle, before they play us.

Those are both fixtures which one way or another can only help us.

Yeah; I know we were desperate, but Sabitzer’s attributes didn’t really cover Eriksen’s absence or backup to Casemiro. Maybe a little more of the latter than the former, but still.

Seems more and more of a strange signing in retrospect.

That's because Ronaldo would be somewhere around the centre circle looking for touches and getting in the way. Ronaldo spent most of 2022 being as bad if not worse than Weghorst was yesterday.

RR/Rosso.

I don't think Sabitzer is a bad player and it was probably a sensible signing in that we were able to get him last minute. He doesn't really give the team what it needs though.

Hopefully we'll have scouted players that can provide what we need and get them in early over the Summer. A few quality free transfers could be a saving grace for the next window if we have to spend big elsewhere.

I don't think there exists a stat that proves Weghorst playing better than Ronaldo in any game. Pick any striker in premier league, he will be an upgrade on Weghorst. The fact that ETH can't /won't see this makes me question his ability on identifying talent.

Victor Osimhen, having one of the best seasons of any centre forward in the world and playing for a club having the best season in any of the top leagues, touches the ball less than any of his team mates. WW is a limited player who we have in the squad due to a state of desperation (years of bad squad management; skint). His lack of touches, however, is mainly a reflection of the fact that he's doing his job stretching play.
