Brighton are currently behind to Chelsea. You have to feel if they don’t win today their goose is cooked in the top 4 race also. It’s 2 out of United, Newcastle and Spurs for top 4 imo.

Villa are genuinely in it now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because you see them not dropping any more points? If they win games in hand, Liverpool are level with them and Brighton three points ahead.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I see every team dropping some points. Some more than others. But momentum is certainly with Villa right now. Just at the right time, too.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The gap is still far too big imo and they are running out of games. Villa probably need to win at least 6 from 7 to have a chance.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
they have won their last 5 so its not beyond them

If Villa even threaten top four, I’ll eat my codpiece.
They’re still sixth, six points behind both Newcastle (who have a game in hand) and us (two games in hand).
And they have to play us, Spurs, Brighton and go to Anfield.

I hear that salted codpiece is quite the delicacy in Portugal. Haven't tried it yet.

Expectations?
If we can keep everyone else fit then it isn't a disaster having to use Lindelof and Maguire. I'm sure we've even beaten City under Ole a few times with them at CB! It may mean us being more pragmatic but so be it.
I certainly wouldn't rule us out of anything. We've also, by hook or by crook, got a pretty fresh looking squad now too so that could be a factor. A win tomorrow would be huge. No matter how we get it.

COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE
Without our recent injuries I think it’s fair to say expectations have changed for the rest of the season.
4 of our 5 most important players imo are now injured.
Expectations now have to be just getting over the line in the top 4. I reckon 4 wins out of our remaining 9 games will get us there and even with a depleted side it has to be a realistic aim.
In the Europa who knows but I’m far less confident now than I was at 2-0 up on Thursday.
I think the FA Cup will be beyond us and I think a far fresher Brighton side will likely beat us.

It’s mad how much better they are than us at certain things.
Not really.
For a start cup competitions are what they are, and that's not going to change. Anything can happen.
None of the injuries are THAT significant.
Defensively, Varane and Maguire is United's strongest cb partnership anyway - despite what the blinkered twattery of the, lazy-thinking, trend-followers would try to suggest.
And the shape of the front 6 has not looked particularly fluid or solid for years, and that's not really changed, regardless of Rashfords presence or not. Fernandes, fred, martial, even (possibly) eriksen/sabitzer are all more useful team players. Sprinkle in a bit of occassional dynamism from Sancho and Anthony and we'll see.
Third place should be readily and easily achieved - which is the position that should have been reached anyway - based on the relative situation of all the pre-season squads. So no change there.
Keep the likes of Dalot, lindelof and mctominay away from the pitch as long as possible - if not permanently -and the necessary results should follow. At least in terms of the remaining league games.
Brighton lead. Still not out of it. I would love it, love it if they pipped Newcastle.
Top 4 shouldn't be an issue. Results this weak have been in our favour and no matter the result in the Newcastle Spurs game we should get an advantage. We're lucky that some of our tough games in thebleagu3 hav3 been pushed into May, which gives time for Varane, Shaw, Rashford and Garnacho.
Spurs going to fluke a win here.
Not concerned about top four. But winning the FA Cup will be really tough. Europa less so.

They didn't. Live it!
We win tomorrow, then in a very worst case scenario the table will look like this after we've played Spurs
3. Newcastle - 59 (from 32 games)
4. Spurs - 59 (from 33 games)
5. United 59 (from 31 games)
Tomorrow will be a real struggle but cannot overstate how big a win it would be

Not concerned about top four. But winning the FA Cup will be really tough. Europa less so.

We win tomorrow, then in a very worst case scenario the table will look like this after we've played Spurs
3. Newcastle - 59 (from 32 games)
4. Spurs - 59 (from 33 games)
5. United 59 (from 31 games)
Tomorrow will be a real struggle but cannot overstate how big a win it would be
