When big clubs hit a period of decline, it takes years to build back and achieve any kind of sustained success. Liverpool and United for example. But what’s happening at Chelsea is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. A combination of loadsamoney and sheer fecking chaos. The more they spend the worse they get.
They just need a top class manager and a striker and it will click in my opinion
Their owners are clueless though ….probably worse than ours
I mean lampard 😂 who even suggested it
Nagelsmann and Toney and I think they are a different beast all together
Chelsea's wage bill is £101m more than Tottenham's atm, how can they maintain that with little prospect of European football next season?
Attendances around the 42,000 mark with no imminent plans for ground expansion either.
Chelsea are just being badly managed footballing wise right now, and this coming from a fan of a club that has been badly managed for many years. All in footballing sense. Levy is very shrewd business man and no doubt on that.
However, he is the epitomy of a failed chairman in footballing sense, with a dreadful record in winning any silverware under his reign.
Todd will go the same way soon, unless he acts quickly and retracts from football and appoint someone to look after that side. For me, how can you go from Potter to Frank? No way. Potter has built a solid team at Brighton and his legacy will stay there even many years after he's left. How do you sack him only after a few months and to make it worse, than appoint a rookie who can only make things worse. I am sure of that.
Lets hope they continue to falter and drop down the leagues before disappearing out of existence altogether.
Awful football club.
Rather than the end of Chelsea's succes on the pitch I'd rather be more worried about them potentially collapsing financially and the following public collateral dmg.
What the owner is doing now is basically gambling on the fact that a Super League will be introduced in the next 10 years with them in it with possibly some of the best players.
The risks however, are mostly 'exported' to others due to the transfer payment spread of a very very big sum. Let's say that Chelsea is hit by another COVID like black swan event, and due to these years bad performances is kicked out of SL and is going to fold next year. They would have to be bailed out by FIFA/local gov or else Shaktar/River all the smaller clubs would have to write off 80+mil and possibly go down as well with increasing risk of contamination. Not to mention the (social) jobs/tax revenue Chelsea provides on a local lvl... (ie Lampard )
It’s Chelsea, they always find a way to save themselves. But with this new owner, I’m not sure. So far he’s shown a lot of arrogance with very little know how about football. Abrahimovic deployed similar strategy but had the right people running the show and it worked.
Funny thing is, we could go bust then into administration then wound down then come back as AFC Chelsea owned by the fans starting from the absolute bottom pyramid of football which would take a decade or two to get back to the PL
And we’d still likely win a PL or major trophy before spurs do

This is where you will be wrong dude - and deluded a bit
If you get into admininstration, I cannot see you guys keeping any current players whether first team or otherwise. Most of your loanees will also leave or be sold off.
You will literally start from scratch.
Spurs probably win anything in the interim, but so will be the same with Chelsea.

What’s the view with the fans with regard to the financial strategy - any concern?
I was staggered to see Fernandes contract extended again last week after only being signed in Jan

Largely despairing. Personally I hope that our woes are amplified by managerial incompetence and new signing syndrome. We have seen teams look radically different from season to season. Easy to look at current form and extrapolate but it can all be quite unpredictable.
Current situation feels bad and worrying though.

I can only speak for myself. I think the spending has been reckless, poorly planned, wasteful and full of risk.

A fat perpetually grumpy faaaack that supports West Ham. It’s like Daniel Levy asking Maf who Spurs new manager should be
Ohhhh that James Corden ! still don't know who he is !
I don't think so no, or at least wouldn't say so now - might think differently in a few years - but that's only because for all of Boehly's faults I do get the impression he wants a successful team first like Abramovich did. His problem is incompetent, not ambivalence like the Glazers, Kroneke's or ENIC.
Suggests he'll be willing to learn, adapt & most importantly keep trying. If he's genuinely delusional & think his way will work no matter how much evidence tells him otherwise, which we can only know in a few years, then we're done.
We'll be back I have no doubt. Might have to spend a few years in transition but Football is cyclic anyway, sometimes you're in the ascendancy and sometimes you're not. We've had a far better time for a long period of time than some of our rivals have had, so we can't complain with our lot.
The american owners don't lack ambition which is good, but it seem like they have some harsh lessons to learn and must learn them, or short term it will continue to be a shambles, but as an old school supporter we have been in far worse situations than this before now and have still come through the pack to dine at the top table and I am fully confident that we will do so again, but it might take a few years to get back there.
Anyone who owns a team that hasn't scored a goal in 4 games and then predicts that this same team is going to win 3-0 away to Real Madrid is clearly delusional (or he's having a bubble if he's not being serious). I'm not overly worried long term. You have to believe that the owners don't get to become as rich as they already have by behaving like incompetent fools all of the time.
a big issue is that players on long term contracts will lose motivation over the next few yrs, particularly if not winning big trophies. if they have to sell these players, losses kick in and thats where the issue goes titts up

Players can be sold. Every club in world football is in a constant state of flux when it comes to players coming and going. To say that a player on a longer contract will lose motivation over a player on a shorter contract is a strange statement. Every player is different and there are a million different circumstances that a player can experience at any given club.
