Harry Winks: a wee insider has let me know we are in talks to sign him.

How will he fare up in scotland? What his injury record like? We do need someone who can break up play, wasnt sure he was that type thought he was more inclined to be a ball moving holding mid rather than a ball winner is that right?

Would he be a good move for Rangers?

Not seen enough of him to judge myself

Winks would probably do well in Scotland, he is technically a very good sitting midfielder. I’ve seen him play Luka Modric off the park in the CL and he was one of the real heroes of the CL run we had.

His issue is he can’t perform consistently, he is zero upper body strength, he doesn’t drive with the ball, he doesn’t score, he doesn’t assist and he can’t put in a strong tackle. He keeps games ticking over though and will have a ridiculously high pass completion rate - but most will be sideways or backwards

OP - agreed, ideal world we keep Kane. The rest I can’t wait to see go.

Unfortunately we seem to be trying to keep Dier - no idea why.

Because we qualified for the CL last year I think we’re obliged to buy Kulu - I think he still has a lot to offer us, so not too upset.

I would like to see more of Danjuma - he hasn’t had a real chance and when he has played he has looked decent - hopefully Mason gives him game time as he might be worth keeping

At his best, he's pretty good at line-breaking too whether with a shoulder drop or a progressive pass.

At his worst he's a risk-averse crab.

In either case he has no physical presence whatsoever.

The fact he's on loan in a league where the pace and physicality are lower tells you all you need to know about whether he's been at his best or worst for Spurs in recent times

Good enough for Rangers? I would not play him in the old firm. The lad can't tackle and he is weak on the ball.

Decent passer but not great at anything. Some used to call him Harry Weaks.

hmmm we dont need a midfielder that can threaten the goal , we do need an engine in there, someone powerful (at least I think we do) think Beale is looking for someone that is composed receiving the ball from the back line. How smart a player is he ie reading the game filling the spaces to protect the back line.

We have two fullback who bomb forward and he will be needed to see what gaps to plug.

Is he someone that we can still improve on?

cheers

He does like to dictate from deep, but when he's off form he's horrible at it and invites pressure by refusing to take the progressive option and opting for the safe pass instead. When he's confident, though, that's what he does - receives it deep, starts forward moves with intelligent runs and passes.

I don't think you'd get a great deal from him defensively though. The main criticism of him when he was at Spurs is that he wants to play defensive mid but doesn't actually do any defending. He's the sort of player you want at the base of midfield in a passing team that always dominates possession.

composure is more important in Old Firms than strength and tackling. Its a super hectic game and the fans force you to work hard and "get stuck in" To be able to know what your doing in amongst the madness is more important. The game is played at 100 mph and has so much emotion in it you need guys who can keep a cool head in a hot kitchen.

Kl , we do obv dominate possession up here so thats a benefit.

I still think we need a bit of bite in our midfield however.

Kl cheers, thought I would ask.

Much is he earning at Spurs?

Yeah mate just buy him then. He should be cheap. Good luck to the both of you.

Maybe a little unfair on him tbf. As someone mentioned he has done well in pressure games in the CL before. He's just been so mediocre for so long at Spurs that it's hard to remember when he played really well as a youngster. His confidence clearly took a major long-term hit. If he's back on top of his game then he could be a very good player for Rangers but he did have a very long slump which I would assume came about because of dropped confidence, and it dramatically changed his output as a player

posted on 25/4/23

He did have a long injury at the start of his loan in Italy and only in the last couple of months has he been getting some playing time. No idea how he has performed.

posted on 25/4/23

His other major weakened sea are tracking - he just doesn’t and he is as useful as a chocolate fire guard at set pieces.

He is zippy across the floor though and wins a high number of loose balls.

He is not a bad player, just very limited - if the players around him compliment his skill set then he can be very good, but he is not the type who can grab a game by the scruff of the neck and make things happen

he would be going into a midfield with Raskin (a tidy and confident player) and Cantwell (a very mobile and attacking ball player) hence why would like to see a bit more power in there. I think he might b quite similar to Raskin who we already have.

posted on 25/4/23

Tidy is the word, yeah. He's definitely not going to provide power or bite. That simply isn't his game.

Harry Winks is a replacement for Glen Kamara.

Neat, tidy and keeps the ball moving but rarely does anything creative or attacking. His career thus far would probably suggest he's better than Kamara.

Decent enough on a free if wages are reduced.

Winks is a good passer but he's horrible defensively, particularly defending in transition. he struggled a lot with the speed and physicality of the epl, been better in Italy this season playing in a slower league.

every play bar Kane and potentially Dier should obviously not still be at the club 3 years from now

Dier as a 4th choice CB would be fine

kamara had legs however, when he was playing well, he was crucial to filling in those fullback roles when they went forward.

Dier can faaack off - I get he is decent cover, I just can’t stand to see the priiick pull on the shirt again though. With the right manager I think the following could do well due to their age and ability shown so far

Romero
Porro
Royal
Udogie (tearing it up in Italy as well as crashing his car)
Reguilon - no idea why he was loaned out
Davies - he is dependable as a squad player
Spence - never been given a chance
Rodon - I reckon Poch would transform him
Bentancur
Bissouma
Skipp
Sarr - young, plenty of raw talent, time to improve
Kane
Son - was top gs year before last, deserves last chance
Kulu - mixed time with us, but we’re obliged now
Danjuma - I like what I’ve seen
Richy - we’ve a long history of players having a bad first season with us only to go on to be a revelation
Lo Celso - very controversial but I think under the right man he could still do it for us
Forster - as back up keeper he is fine

That’s 19 leaving us with 6 players to buy to finish the squad - 3 x CBs, 2x creative midfielders and a first choice keeper.

posted on 25/4/23

Rodon and Reguilon just aren't very good.

and the opposite too...we can all list them.
