Love Varane but I get the feeling he'll be injured again before the final

Even if he came in the last few PL games to protect Shaw and Lindelof for the final that would be something. If he's fit though I think he plays the final with Shaw reverting back to LB. Lindelof to partner him.

Lindelof has done well lately but personally I’d go with Shaw CB. It worked against them at OT where we kept Haaland very quiet.

I think Martinez is a bigger miss for us than Varane.
Personally I have not really been all that impressed with Varane this season.
Before the injury he was looking solid tbf but for much of the season before that he was somewhat unconvincing.

I disagree with all of that.

We haven’t missed Martinez that much at all when Shaw plays at LCB. It’s only when it’s Maguire or Lindelof play there that we see a massive drop off.

Varane has been very good most of the season when fit. Because of his pace and how well he reads the game what he does goes under the radar a bit.

It’s a bit like Rio and Vidic where because Vidic was more all action he often got more recognition than Rio.

The only weakness in Varane’s game is that he isn’t fantastic on the ball.

I think they're equally important.

Shaw has played the Martinez role well, but Martinez is also a very important leader on the pitch. We miss him massively.

I’m just playing devils advocate here as I really like him and think he’s been a great signing but strangely results suggest otherwise to your last sentence.

I was rather hoping Bellingham might see sense and come to United.

But better Real Madrid than Liverpool or City 🤮

I think it's the right move for him. He'll always have an opportunity to play in the PL but this may be his one and only chance of going to Madrid. The fact he's already played abroad will help as well.

I wonder what the Romano nay-sayers will have on this one.

Probably looking at this season and thinking their glory spell won't last for ever.

They had a few years where everything seemed to go right for them and credit to them but I'm not sure it was ever sustainable.

The PEDs lose their effectiveness after a while.

Don't get me wrong I love Martinez but Varane goes under the radar and is a better defender. I mean he's a 4 x CL winner & a world cup winner and brings a calming influence.

Bellingham was never gonna sign for the rat eaters, why would he?? Not even sure where that Bellshill story came from.

Yes, Martinez is a better footballer as such but Varane is the better defender imo. If I had to choose one to be available for a big game it would be Varane all day.

Who in everyone's opinion is the taller player out of Martinez and Varane currently? I know at the start of the season Martinez's height was far too low but he has really grown into the season so would be interesting to see his height stats for the 2nd half of the season. Varane in contrast started the season tall but have not seen his 2nd half of season height stats. Anyone know?

His Dad's his agent and a Liverpool fan, so nailed on obvs.

Also, it is 'known in the footballing world' that Liverpool made a bid of £100m for him. How could he turn them down if this is the case?

We offered like 80m and Dortmund told us to go where the sun does not shine, which we did.

Also he is looking at Sancho type wages which again rules us out.

United will help Madrid out by paying over the odds for some old guy they are looking to move on.

Never quite got the Bellingham hype. I think he has the engine and mentality, but don’t think he naturally fits into any of the more niche midfield roles that the modern game seems to require.

Having said that, I’m glad he’s gone to Madrid and not another PL because I may well be very wrong.
