Am not saying there isnt reductions, but nowhere near 50-60%.
We really saying that Jack Harrison signed a bumper deal, last month, and its going to be halved if we go down. Why would he sign that deal 🤷🏻♂️ Anything could happen in next 3 months.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah course it's possible.
What if the new contract is double what he was on? He can't be worse off.
What if the deal was he will accept 50% pay cut but wants a relegation release clause in there at £15m so that he can keep his options open.
He knows that his agent will be able to get him a better deal elsewhere with that transfer fee and there's nothing the club can do to stop him despite having 4 years left on his contract.
And like I said if in the unlikely event he wants to stay he can always take his better offers from other clubs to Leeds and ask to them match it in the summer.
Obviously all speculation but it's quite feasible to see why he it's possible to agree to it.
And you have to remember that he would have backed himself and his teammates to secure survival, in which case he's got a bumper new contract for the next 4 years where he wants to be.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If players really are on release clause contracts, and being relegated has no impact on their future earnings, other than in terms of self esteem, what incentive does a player have to try and prevent a club from suffering relegation.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There will be bonuses for staying up, and surely everyone tries their best, to get bigger future contracts with the club or other clubs 🤷🏻♂️

Do they? I can certainly envisage a scenario where it might be in a players best interest not to put any effort in at all to engineer a move away. Samu Saiz springs to mind.
I think most of our current players will be decent at championship level. Roca, Aaronson, Kristensen, those that have disappointed, should all step up next season if in the second tier. Need to move a few of the old guard on and start again.
I quietly fancy Rutter to destroy the championship tbh.

All of them should prosper in the Championship, but for me, the one player we must keep is Cresswell. He's a leader and will only get better.
I also think Joseph and Perkins could have a role to play.

Once again this is an indicator that you have never seen the boy play. Some things you cannot put into words as they stand out a mile.
Reading yesterday that Cresswell's getting some
interest from the continent. Can't afford to lose him.
Pulled this based on the purse fight yesterday:
Speaking on his The Phil Hay show (The Square Ball),
the Athletic journalist detailed some potential worrying ramifications should they suffer relegation.
He said:
“There’s no director of football at the moment. There’s no head coach beyond Allardyce for these four games.
“If Leeds United get relegated, there are players who have relegation release clauses in their contracts, which means if clubs meet a certain valuation, they can sign them.
“They have the right to take them on. There will be major wage reductions if Leeds go down. There are players with contracts that’ll see their wages fall by 50 or 60 per cent, which has to be done. You cannot carry the same wage bill in the Championship as you do in the Premier League.”

When did he say some and not all ?
Original article did say all.
Still think that’s harsh on Phil Hay - end of the day journalists are just getting information passed onto them by someone at the club or agents. It’s not like he’s looking at the actual contracts himself. I generally think I get good insight from his articles and podcast
Square Ball lads rate him. That’s good enough for me.
