Nobody should ever fail to get home from a football match.
I went to two matches that day....
Stoke v Chelsea 11:30 KO Chelsea won 1-0 (David Speedie)
Then went to WBA v Arsenal at 3pm (2-2) there was a lot of talk about it as we were going in at about 3:05
That video was the standard Health & safety fire video for ages...awful - but a real lesson
My sincere condolences to those who lost a loved one on that day.
I was at Luton that day with my brother. The half-time scores were broadcast during which they announced that the Bradford City-Lincoln match had been abandoned due to a fire.
We heard nothing more from those around us as our game progressed but as we left the Kenilworth Road ground, people were huddled around those with radios turned up loud giving updates from Valley Parade. When we got back to our car we listened to the radio commentary by Tony Delahunty who was broadcasting for a local radio station at the ground and was very close to the fire.
A terrible tragedy. R.I.P. to all those who lost their lives.

I was in Plough Lane watching Wimbledon relegate Cardiff, shocking how bad the stadiums were at the time. Pretty sure a young Birmingham fan died on the same day when a wall collapsed at St Andrews. Of course just three weeks later was the Heysel Stadium disaster. RIP to all.
Thankfully football has moved on a bit
Remember watching it as it happened on Granstand.
RIP
