I think it's even longer than 1996 for Luton. They missed out on the inaugural PL season I think and went down in 1992 and eventually slipped into non-league football. Not unlike Notts County
Yeah, sorry it was 92. 96 was when they got relegated from the second tier
Wonder if Carrick regrets trying to rest players in the last 3 games and falling into a bad run of form. 2 defeats and a draw in their last 3.
Funny that both Boro and Wednesday failed to beat their play-off opponent in the last game of the season which set up the p/o meeting. Maybe if they had both won on the final day they would be heading to Wembley having had a different semi final opponent.
What a great play-off final. Don't mind at all who comes up as they are both basically new faces now.

Was thinking this myself. Boro by drawing with Coventry in the last league game opened the door for them to eliminate them in the playoffs. Wednesday was a bit different in that they actually won their last league game against Derby but in doing so, opened the door for Peterborough to get into the playoffs and hammer them.
I suppose that means it can work both ways but I certainly think it's preferable to go into the playoffs on the back of a bit of form

Yeah I'll be happy for either club. Slight preference for Luton, just because I've never seen them in the top flight whilst I still remember Coventry. Would be nice nostalgia if Coventry did get up though, all the same. Big Dion banging them in was fun times
It’s a pretty incredible story whichever club gets promoted.
Think Boro had some injury issues towards the end of the season. Losing Ramsey was a blow as he’s been grate for them since joining on loan.
Wonder if they will both fill Wembley?
Luton took 40k to Wembley in the 2009 Johnstone's Paint Trophy final when they were in League 2 and getting relegated to The Conference so they will probably easily sell their allocation. Coventry might struggle, though.

74k for Coventrys 2017 EFL trophy final, but only 50k for their 2018 L2 play off final. Sure they will find fans eager to go though,

Really? Didn't see that and that's bizarre. It gets boring when it's the same clubs bouncing up and down.
Think what prem money could do for clubs like Coventry and Luton as well.
IF Luton do get promoted, they will face £millions of work to do to bring 'The Kenny' upto PL regulations.

Yeh. They have to build a suitable TV Media Centre in one of the existing stands. They will have just 3 months to do it in.

Yeah the timescale will be more of a problem than the money. Unless they end up ground sharing and take their time on their own stadium.
Should let them play at Wembley for a laugh.
I don’t think it matters which of these teams go up, both would likely come straight back down.
