Bob paisley?

I didn`t put Bob in, because Liverpool were already at the top of the tree. Not belittling what he did, but he just really took over from the Shanks project.

You obviously didn't rate Arsene Wenger.

Arsene Wenger.

Revolutionised English football by bringing in new science based philosophies. From training, coaching to dietary and nutrition.

Which created a legacy copied by his peers and is now normal practice throughout the game.

MOURINHO?????????

Mourinho was the only manager in Tottenhams history that came close to winning a trophy if your stupid bald twaaat chairman hadn’t sacked him before a final.

In regard to Claudio Ranieri, that’s not quite right there fella. Nigel Pearson steered City to safety from a doomed position. The following season, Ranieri saw the title through but was pulling the club down to a position whereby relegation was on the cards had he remained the manager for much longer.

So any manager that spent money or managed any team that was decent , is instantly discredited? all the work on the training pitch, around the club they do every day, for years , is irrelevant because they're owners are rich..

Bob Wilson, steered lower-half Portsmouth to back-to-back league titles, their only two to date.

Bob Paisley = 3 league cups, 6 league titles & 3 European cups!

This list is silly.

Was given half the French world cup winning team. So what was hard about what he achieved?

No, I think you are missing the point. The article says best postwar managers. Those that built teams from scratch, more or less.

Any manager in world football can take over a team at the top of the tree, and win trophies. Easiest job in the world.

Amazing how lots of modern supporters don`t rate managers pre 2000.

You can't put Fergie in there for his Scottish exploits and not have Stein FFS.

I think we all know that. But Liverpool were already at the top of the tree, he just took over. Like Guardiola at Man City. He hardly had to do much to keep Liverpool at the top, they already had most of the best players.

Bill Shankly took Liverpool from the 2nd division to titles. A much greater achievement.

He lost one of the best Centre forwards in the world in Keegan and went and replaced him with Kenny Dalglish and made a profit doing it.

I like managers who were also great players.
If you can't play the game then you can't manage it.
So I go for Billy Nich and Alf Ramsey.

I will add Jock Stein, forgot about him. But Fergie winning the Scottish league three times in the modern era, probably considered a harder achievement. Seeing as no side for the past 40 years, other than Rangers or Celtic have won the title.

How exactly was he 'given' these French players, was it a belated Christmas present?

Obvs Fergie
The Aberdeen stuff
Then the sustained success at United, rebuilding and still being successful

No one else has done that

Some have had short periods of success then got out when the team past it’s shelf life

So basically were just like a modern day Man City back then, lose a top player, then able to replace him with another top player. As I said Paisley never took Liverpool from the bottom, they were already at or near the top when he took over.
