No, goals and assists dont paint the whole picture.
James Maddison will look miles better than Gattuso & Viera if you use the logic you have to determine who the best is.
Any debate that focusses solely on a subset of statistics is bollix. He may well be the GOAT in some minds, almost certainly one of them, but it is all very subjective.
Keane and Viera's stats are probably average but they're up there!
Scholes as well.
De-Bruyne and Beckham are imo the two best and crossing a ball in and the former is better than anyone at slipping a ball through the line. Plus he has a great weak foot.
With that in mind, he may be the best!
I dunno if he’s the sole best ever. But I also don’t think anyone was better than him. So he’s up there with anyone else.
He’s in the debate for sure, he’s an absolutely wonderful footballer but I still think it’s Gerrard considering the crap teams he dragged to silverware.
Viera is up there, Scholes, Lampard, Toure, Keane in the same bracket but all do very different roles.

He’s not a midfielder but Trent puts in a better ball than both Beckham and De Bruyne.
I think he is getting very close to it. Fantastic player. Shame he had to play for a filthy cheating oil club though. That second bank account does wonders for him though I'm sure.

come on now
KDB has been in the best team since he joined the league, lampard and certainly gerrard were not.
Also KDB joined the league in his prime, lampard spent a fair few years before he matured and started getting the rewards.
Gerrard the same, started at liverpool at a very young age.

Trent actually has a hell of a lot of crosses over the last few years, I think statistically KDB is leagues ahead with quality compared to quantity

De Bruyne had no one upfront last season and the season before Plus Lampard had Drogba, Anelka or Hasselbank at different points in time whilst Gerrard had Owen, Torres or Suarez, so they played with great strikers mostly.
As a Chelsea fan I think Lampard was great, but him or Gerrard were clearly nowhere near as talented and creative as De Bruyne.

its amazing , doesnt mean it can be used as a guage to compare two different type players in the same area.
Same as I wouldnt use the goals scored to compare Drogba to say Darren Bent or Danny Ings.

I don't see how its unfair to compare Gerrard and Lampard to De Bruyne using goals and assists. It's not like I compared De Bruyne to Roy Keane or Michael Essien.

Its ok I just put it out there, most others will see why, i didnt expect you to.
Yeah and last year he only got 8 pl assists and 12 the year before.
Thats with jesus, mahrez, foden, aguero and others up top over those years.
Everything concsidered de bryne gets in the list of top midfielders of all time but imo Nickasaurus makes a very good point as to why it's more than just numbers.

Gerrard would be making a tackle near the corner flag one minute and rampaging down the win the next. He was your all round midfielder. De-Bruyne is a totally different player.
De-Bruyne plays the piano and Gerrard the electric guitar!
