Slot - from a Feyenoord fan

posted on 24/5/23

Levy has looked at Ten Haag and what he has done with United in his first year and thought Slot is a similar appointment who can achieve similar.

The difference is, Ten Haag had the benefit of significant investment into the squad, he got his first choice players and subsequently the results followed. Whenever those key players are missing, United look bang average.

At Spurs, Slot won`t get the investment and will be asked to use second and third choice players, young players and be left with a short squad.

What does he like to do with his full backs - push up, stay back, or a combination?

Chris is dying to know
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He likes to play inverted fullbacks in the first phase build like most top teams. Basically a 2-3-5 formation. The width comes from the wingers.

A very good coach similar to TH. I expect Spurs to improve if they get him.

Feyenoord should go for the AZ coach Jansen who has done well in Europe.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
exactly the answer I was looking for, THANKS Mandy

Slot lost most of his first team in his second summer at the club - 8 players and had faaack all to rebuild with, then won the title with a load of youth players

It’s a good sign that he might be able to overcome some of DL’s bull schitt

But yeah to Billy's point, it's easier to look good when you've got Casemiro and Varane instead of Hojbjerg and Dier

That promoted players from the youth system and coached them to the title - that’s was Slot, nothing to do with the DOF.

No guarantee he can replicate in the Prem but then same could have been said for Nagelsmann - atleast Slot wants to be here and has proven he can work with next to no budget

We’ve also got Bentancur and Bissouma. Granted our CB options would make a non league manager weep.

I think we will find a couple of our loan army being starters next season - can see Lo Celso being used and Reggie too. Rumour is we are trying to bring Kocku in aswell.

Still no solid links to CB’s though which is terrifying - Lenglet will be made permanent apparently - sensible at about £10m

I mean that's grate but they signed a fair few players, even if they were cheap and at a profit to what they sold

Yep, and this is where Levy has to realise that a big club just stumps up the money to get their man in - it is massively detrimental to us if this drags on another month, Slot needs getting in and to get going

This is the problem with Levy. He sees the win in trying to bring the price down so he can save himself a couple of million (which is peanuts to our club), all the while the clock is ticking on planning and recruitment for next season.

A club with serious ambitions and concerns about where it currently sits, would move heaven and earth to get him in the hot seat the moment the final whistle goes on Sunday. The longer this drags on, the less time he has to deal with the huge turnover in players required over the summer. It's the biggest and most important window I can remember. Yet you know Levy will be there in Rotterdam for months dragging this bullshiiiit out and that, ladies and gents, in a nutshell, is everything that's wrong with this fecked up excuse for a club.

Good article Cloggy.

1 thing I have been impressed with is how he balanced Europe and domestic duties - does he rotate regularly, does he stick shadow teams out in some games or does he run the same 13/14 players into the ground?

What was his transfer record like for Feyenoord - successes vs Failures?

Finally, what are his short comings please

He has a contract till 2025, we dont want to let him go. Just to put things in perspective though, we offered to raise his salary to 2 million. You'll probably pay him that for 2 months of work.

Frank Arnesen was our DoF, he left in the summer of 2022, I reckon at that time the team for the 22/23 was sorted by him probably.

But all of Slots new players were a succes, not one flopped Every player they bought, most for not much money, were a hit. Quinten Timber, David Hancko, Igor Paixao, Javairo Dilrosun, Santiago Gimenez, Sebastian Szymanski, Ezequiel Bullaude, Neraysho Kasanwirjo, Marcos Lopez, Mats Wieffer, Danilo and Oussama Idrissi.

But players like Justin Bijlow, Lutsharel Geertruida, Quilindschy Hartman and Orkun Kokcu are all homegrown. New players or homegrown…Slot has made every player better.

The real issue here is, if he does become the new Hotspur manager:

Slottenham Hotspur?

Tottenham Slotspur?

Slottenham Slotspur?

We might need a vote thread.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What happened to the thread on this very issue?

I coined the term Slottenham and have applied for the copyright. Also don't mind spurs so great to see them following our route of bald cloggers

Agreeing terms with Slot is the easy part. Treble or quadtriple his current salary and he will be happy. Levy will still save millions compared to Conte's wage.

The compo will be interesting. You have to wonder if Slot really wants Orkun Kökçü as well, there could be an opportunity for a double deal and some ghetto accounting.
