Apart from the early goal, you can’t complain. Would’ve snapped your hand off at the start of the season for third and a trophy, and we didn’t embarrass ourselves against a - let’s face it - unbelievable Man City team & squad.
Did ourselves justice in parts, but the divide in class was clear in others. Take a look at the benches - we had probably one player in Garnacho who could make a reasonable difference; City had match winners all over the starting eleven and on the bench. Sometimes you’ve just gotta don your hat to the better team.
Gutted, but hopeful at the same time. Our time will come again.
Would’ve been interesting to see if we had Antony, Martinez, Sabitzer, and Martial fit; not that I think we’d have won, but tactically you could see ETH was restricted. Eriksen’s done very well this season in parts, but he’s been poor since returning for injury and he probably had no business starting today if we had a fully fit squad. Sancho - who knows? Give him another season for sure, but he just doesn’t seem to have the killer instinct you’d expect of a world level player.
Written after looking after two little ones, a few dark rims in, and very little food, so forgive me đđ
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The ref gave you a lifeline. Otherwise you wouldnt be in that game at all
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't be ridiculous. We were "in it" at 1-0 and both Varane and McTominay had good chances thereafter, plus Garnacho coming close. 2-1 was about the right result overall.

Certainly the better team won. As I said, 2-1 was about right, maybe even 3-1. But the idea that we weren't it without the ref is nonsense. We'd started to get a bit of a foothold just before the penalty and obviously came close three times after that.
We were the far better side but De Gea being rubbish and our finishing being rubbish cost us.

So apart from being rubbish we were the better side
The game went how I thought. De Gea being usless and our attackers being useless and us being by far the better side. Story of our season.
We'd win that final with Allison in goal.
A new keeper is a must.
To finish 3rd with near the worst goalkeeper and strikeforce in the league is a miracle. Man City I think outscored there XG by 5 goals against us over the 3 games despite Man Utd having a higher XG over the 3 games we conceded 9 and scored 6.

The ref gave you a lifeline. Otherwise you wouldnt be in that game at all

Don't be ridiculous. We were "in it" at 1-0 and both Varane and McTominay had good chances thereafter, plus Garnacho coming close. 2-1 was about the right result overall.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Before that City could have scored 3 more.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, they didn't. Hence us being still "in it"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Our xG was higher than theirs tbf. Admittedly there was a pen in there but they didn't have a lot of clear chances, we defended well. No question, the better team won though
