More likely it’s nearing the end of a monotonous period surely. Our level of success will drop as soon as Pep goes.
I'm just hoping Jesse Lingard gets another opportunity at a top flight club so he can finally kick on and fulfil his potential and have a successful career over the next 10-12 years

Will be weird looking back and seeing so many seasons where there was no winner of the PL after they’re convicted of their 115 crimes and all their titles are vacated

A generational flop in his case
The Haaland/Mbappe/Garnacho debate will be the new Messi/Ronaldo
Kind of a shame about Ronnie. He rather sh11t the bed in his last years.
The generation who champion Messi and Ronaldo today will soon grow old and rubbish all new 'pretenders' that come through the next generations of footballers, with their peers claiming their favourites to be the new GOATS and charging the Messi and Ronaldo generation of bathing in rose-tinted, Old Skool, nostalgia.
That's how it works.
I don't really get this feeling myself, as it's all been fairly staggered.
Ronaldo and Ibra were already on the fringes of the game, and it doesn't really matter all that much if they retire or go to play in some backwater league.
Messi only really went to PSG because he could collect a huge pay cheque and coast all the way to the World Cup. He may not have been playing in one of the Gulf leagues, but it already had a semi-retirement feel to it, a bit like Sergio Ramos too. They've been a complete failure in terms of turning around their CL fortunes, which was the prime sporting objective.
It's only really been the Madrid veterans who in terms of club football have kept the old guard relevant the past couple of seasons.

A bit different nowadays as literally all of Messi and Ronaldo's matches can be watched again in the future. Ask an old person nowadays and get them to be really honest, they saw Pele/Maradona play approx 5 times in total. That's their information for forming their view. But because they're old they feel that their view carries a lot more weight
There's been greats in the past and we'll continue to have them but we've never really had the rivalry that we saw with Messi and Ronaldo, it really was unique. 2 greats with very different strengths who pushed each other on to be even better for over a decade and for a large part playing for huge rivals in Real and Barcelona. Also statically they're both on another level.
Greats in the past existed at the same time but there was never that rivalry.
