Madrid have only had 1 season of splashing big in the transfer window going all the way back to James Rodríguez, who joined in 2014.
That was, iirc, 2018 or '19, when we landed Hazard, Jovic and Militao. I'm not 100% sure now whether Courtois was the same window, but you get the gist.
There have even been 2 or 3 seasons in that time of zero signings and lots of sales, and over these past four or five seasons since Ronaldo, we've also got most of the biggest earners off the books: him, Bale, Ramos, now Hazard, Benzema ...
Rudiger and Alaba will likely be on good money, as they joined on a free, but last season, iirc, we were more than €200M below the wage cap we were set by La Liga, and we didn't finalise the Mbappé deal for which we had set the funds aside.
So, all in all, there should be plenty of scope and opportunity to splash big if need be.
It’s been a bizarre few years looking at the transfer market and not seeing Real Madrid waving their diiiick around. I never, ever thought that would happen with Florentino Perez as the president.

So that's a total outlay of €111M, or £95M at today's exchange rate, for all four.
I wouldn't say that's at all expensive for an élite club at today's rates.
And it pales in comparison to the stuff Perez would do up to about 2014.

I think so too. Makes the most sense for him and Spurs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Whilst it is very possible & understandable, I don’t think he will simply due to the family situation and less so the premier league goal record. If he had no kids or was nowhere near the record then I would agree wholeheartedly as Real obviously offer a much better opportunity of winking proper silverware.
They’re also in transition, from their usual level, but that won’t take as long as it likely will for United but still possibly too long for Kane depending on how much he values a La Liga title.
If I had to put money on it, even though I’d rather we sign him, I’d bet that he stays at Spurs.

What's a fortune, in your books, for a top notch defender nowadays?
Bear in mind that for a few years now, all the top PL clubs have generally been paying upwards of £50-£60M on transfer fees alone for top-drawer defenders, without even beginning to consider signing-on fees and wages.
Neither Camavinga nor Tchouameni are believed to be on more than £130k/week, which I doubt is significantly more than they'd expect from any top PL side, and Camavinga, as stated, was not an expensive signing in terms of fee either.
Incidentally, the players already confirmed to be leaving have already freed up £1M p/w or roughly 25% of the wage bill, as per:

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. Wages aren’t insignificant but £500k a week is £26m a year. When compared to paying £70m for a player then paying £300k a week on wages, the difference is huge. They’ll do what they’ve done many times and invest big to get back to the top of Europe. Their revenue is still second highest at $761m
Wages are usually the most significant outgoing of any club, and their has been huge because of the players they’ve had, but it’s not like others haven’t had comparable wage bills, whilst still investing significantly more on transfer fees.
Obviously they haven’t really needed to spend that much on transfers because of the players they had. But it’s just interesting to me to see them operate this way, especially when you consider that Perez was the pioneer of the Galacticos, which was as much a commercial endeavour as it was about building a winning football team.
It’ll be interesting to see how the future of La Liga plays out. Every time I see highlights of games there are so many empty stadiums and they have issues with TV rights. Barca are seemingly on the edge of oblivion every season and somehow Real seem to be well run which is a sign of the apocalypse.
The worrying thing for La Liga has been the lack of quality in the pool of Spanish players. Obviously that golden generation is difficult to live up to, but Portugal seem to have overtaken them on the talent pool front in recent years. Could just be a bit of a lull for now, don’t know enough about the youth programmes to know if it’s something more systemic. If I were to speculate on that it would be that a number of other countries have improved technical levels but combined it well with athleticism, whereas Spain are possibly missing the latter a little bit.

The solution is staring us in the face - La Liga and the Portuguese leagues should merge. If only to see the look on Rosso’s face.
Spain's youth teams are still doing well, albeit not at the level of a decade ago. Bar the odd hiccup that anyone else is prone to, they do still tend to make the finals rounds in European championships. The impression though is that other nations have gotten their acts together. Most semis will contain at least two or three of Germany, Netherlands, France, Portugal, England, Spain and increasingly Italy again.
It seems the biggest difficulty is in making the final step up to the elite.
Robb, here are La Liga's attendance figures for the season: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/laliga/besucherzahlen/wettbewerb/ES1/saison_id/2022/plus/1
There are two or three that historically have typically low attendances, partly because they play in oversized stadiums, but more than half the league averages above 80% capacity, and that's not counting Madrid and Villarreal who have been operating on reduced capacity due to ongoing stadium redevelopments.
What issues concerning TV rights?

Benzema, Hazard and Asensio have all left, they're definitely gonna spend something this summer in attack, they have also bought Endrick.
One thing I read though is that they have a limit on the number of non EU players they can and they've already bought 2 of them this year.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
According to transfermarkt, Endrick doesn't join until next summer.

Bellingham will be £100M+ and that should be it really, unless they sign any freebies or youngsters.
They are in a similar position to Barca, so if they go and spend another £100M+ on Harry Kane then FFP should be looking at them, although we all know they wont.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They can't possibly be in the same position when they've made a profit on their transfers over the last few years.

They can't possibly be in the same position when they've made a profit on their transfers over the last few years.
