I actually almost understand it more for someone like Neves, over the older retiring players going for just a year or two. The money being offered for Neves is crazy and still once in a lifetime. The rumour is it is xTEN what he is earning in PL. It would be mad to not even consider the option. 3 year contract.
A move to a big club who cant pay him what he wants?
Fifa gave Qatar the World Cup, I’m unsure what you think they can/ will do about this.

he would get more than a decent salary. I imagine he is on at least 50K at Wolves. He would at least double that if he moves to Utd/Arsenal/Barca. So suddenly he is now worth 300/400K?
Losing players to richer clubs is the norm. The premier league and other top leagues do it all the time.
How's it any difference to someone like Ramsdale leaving Bournemouth for Arsenal to win nothing?
He would at least double that if he moves to Utd/Arsenal/Barca

He would also be sat on the bench most weeks.
Agree its a bit of an odd move, but meh, whatever motivates him.
Reminds me of Gyan moving to Al-Ain.

Gyan was actually good, though.
The usual sentiment is "We'd all move jobs for a 10X salary increase".... But at some point, that 10X is not going to change your life in any meaningful way. It's just a zero on your bank account that you will never spend close to all of.
I find it a bit of a shame, but maybe the guy just sin't that into the game... I remember a Spur full back once said that he's not really into football, he was just good at it. Prefered basketball, but was not tall enough.
If there is money to be made then FIFA won't care. They probably have fees for every transfer which is made so its win win.
Why would FIFA do anything?
Prem teams fans crying about getting a taste of their own medicine ffs
Not that it will matter for you really, your losing a guy with an amazing highlights reel but he's not a top player. If you play for Wolves for 6 seasons, your at best good.

Exactly. Not every footballer loves the game. Or even if they do, they could still prioritise their family over football. I believe that Neves is on £50k a week. If he has been offered £300k a week why would he not take that? He can go and earn £50m tax free for 3 years. So coming out with about 10 times what he does now. He'd be mad not to accept that. Who wouldn't be happy to go and work in a sunny climate for 3 years and earn that kind of money for an easier job?
Why suddenly are people saying that players from random crap like Wolves would be competing for major trophies by staying in the PL?
"Why would Will Hughes at the age of just 28 leave Crystal Palace for 100x the money when he could win the treble with Palace in England?"

Barcelona aren't even a top 4 PL side, nevermind competing for the PL title. Anywho, unless he moves to City then he is statistically very unlikely to win a trophy with an English side. Maybe Conference League. Or a runners up medal to Sevilla in the Europa now as that can possibly be classed as a major trophy alongside the conference league and top 4 trophy.
One of Chelsea’s sponsors is owned by the Saudi guy ain’t he? Makes sense why they’re suddenly getting offers to offload a few of their high earning squad players they would otherwise struggle to shed.

Good point, barry
I see the point of players who might not love the game as much as some of us do? for a far few of them it might just be a "job" and earning potential is more important than winning stuff or playing for a top team.
I think what a player does, where he plays his football is only a decision he can make at the end of the day, to be fair I'm not certain what I would do, most players were brought up working class so seeing the sums on offer would freak me but as said, each to their own I suppose
Ruben will turn up on Tyneside in August on loan.
He will form a fantastic partnership with Bruno Guimarães.
He’s not that good and won’t get this sort of money in his twilight years.
I assume Neves isn't really bothered about trophies or personal milestones given he captained Porto at 18 in the CL then moved to Wolves in the championship.
Shouldn't be too surprised he's now moving to Saudi.

This. Bit late to cry about it now, given we’ve been doing it for years.
Yeah it is a good point. People do seem to forget that a large number of players go to crap PL teams because of money, leaving top European sides like Porto, Ajax etc.
Maybe these players aren't at Wolves for the romance of the PL, the chance to play for the biggest trophies. Maybe they are just at these nothing PL clubs just for money in the first place.
A lot of PL fans are blinded by delusion that the PL is the be all and end all and players would come and play for free just for the privilege.
Maybe the PL were the original baddies and now we are being brainwashed into thinking the Saudis are the evil ones.
And what caused the PL to be the baddies in the first place? Ah yeah oil money. It is all just one big pile of oil money nonsense and people can spin it any way they want to suit a narrative, but at the end of the day oil money just runs football.
