Not harsh at all. He's known for his screaming vocals. He can't do it anymore due to aging.
Naming one song he did ok on, doesn't change the fact that he struggled to hit the notes on most songs.
He held the notes well for a man of his age, were you expecting Aled Jones type vocals?

Struggled's a bit harsh.
He's at least 25 years older from when most of these songs were released, of course he won't be able to replicate that exactly.
The dodgy sound on the BBC didn't do him any favours either.

Actually surprised his voice is still half decent, after 38 years of carnage … and it’s still very good relative to Macca’s brutal closing headliner last year! My ears are still suffering from that one.
It must be me, I enjoyed Macca last year as well.
I remember watching the Manics in 2005, last night's show was practically the same set but without the passion. New Order were similar a couple of years ago, some bands should really sit back and allow us to enjoy the memories.
I was expecting what I saw, as I saw them at Tottenham Hotspur stadium last year and he was the same.
Still enjoyed it, but pretending that Axl can still 'hit those notes' and his voice hasn't deteriorated more than would be expected is silly.
Good grief, I never said he was the same as he was in the 80's
I never said you said that either. Weird response.
His voice was okay, clearly not going to able to maintain that voice from the 80s but it was good enough, to be expected as Boris said.
Tammy thinks I'm comparing him to Pavorotti.

Aye, I thought the Manics singer was phoning it in a bit yesterday, vocally anyway.
Saw some of GnR. Thought it was good enough but agree the audio/vocals were a bit off. At least age doesn't seem to have got to Slash's hands though.
I was expecting a little more audience participation with some of the lyrics to their big hits, like maybe they could have helped Axl out there.

Fair play to Axle, I’m ten years younger and frequently have to remind myself why I came upstairs. This guys was rocking out with slash with some real vigour…..
The BBC sound quality was absolutely abysmal….In fact their coverage has been really limited compared to previous years..

You can watch all the stages live on iPlayer.
Watching Cat Stevens on the Pyramid stage now. He's still got it.
Listen to Vince Neil live if you want to hear shocking vocals. Axl wasn’t too bad last night imo
Cat Stevens is really grate from whit I have seen/herd
Enjoyed GnR last night.
Axl's vocal range clearly not what it was. Hence many songs were performed in a lower key. Which resulted in large parts of his performance being inaudible.
Slash outstanding as always.

I can't remember where I saw Erasure perform live on TV but I noticed this then. He was singing Sometimes and it sounded awful.
Y wud Vince Neil b singin with Erasure?
Cat's voice has stood up better than Axl's.
What a legend.
