Who do people think we are better than currently out of these:

City
Utd
Arsenal
Liverpool
Newcastle
Spurs
Brighton
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's not the point. We're going to spend big again and bring in Caicedo probably. After doing that and if you factor in we won't have European football next season so we'll only play once a week most weeks and if you factor in that at least a couple of teams will have dissapointing seasons next season (This always happens) we should finish in CL Places next season. It will be a wasted opportunity if we don't.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope you are right, I expect most of us would. Of course whilst some of those teams will have worse seasons, others will have better. We have to do better than the 7 that finished above us. We bought in prolific goal scorers in the past few years that haven't worked here. We have to shed the negativity that Jose instilled in the team and become a more forward looking and attack minded team. If all that works, we will be fine but anything can happen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's just a huge opportunity for Pockets to have a really good first season with not having to balance the European games and more time to coach the now smaller squad. If he messes it up, then it will be really disappointing.

I actually hoped we would have got conference league last year so that chuk, d fofana, hall, chalobah, colwill, mudryk and whoever else may have actually got some solid game time next year.

Couldn't believe lampards treatment of the younger players last year.

Out of interest, where did the bookies have Chelsea to finish before the start of last season?

In a world of transfer and state-led billions being spent (which obviously no club is immune to...)

This is a very sensible post! well done!

No scramble for more money spent but wage bill going down and a leveling of the books, even admitting it might take a while to turn things around...

the internet might not be for you mate!

Agree with the essence of this. Don't agree with the owners approach, but given the approach they took & what's done is done, this has been a good window so far. Completing the squad revolution by clearing out players, but not getting bullied on their evaluations despite our desire to sell not being a secret.

haha thank you. My points and view is just my opinion, but I can only call it as I see it.

Money only goes so far, it needs to be invested correctly. Even during romans time, our best players were terry, lampard, cole, azpilicueta, cech, drogba who came to about 40 million combined.

Then you have a look at lukaku/maguire at utd etc.

How much do you have to clear (£ value) to meet FFP?
Thats part of the reason for the clear out isnt it?

Not that anyone seems to care about it!

I think we are pretty much fine to make more signings now. We will likely make about £300m over the window with lukaku, ziyech and a few others going (pulisic, rlc).

That, before signings would take us down to about 7th on the net spend table the last 5 years. But then we will no doubt make signings.

Scouse -

The 3 season FFP requirement must be cleared today on the books 30/06/23.

Cfc's 3 year profit & loss for this period is - 120m

The club have cleared this figure. The summer transfer activity has helped achieve this this month 200m sales.

The next FFP deadline is in three years, so all of the current activity profit and loss will be relevant in three years.

The clear out as has been explained in these conversations is for several reasons.

1; The owners have undertaken a major restructuring of the squad and are stamping their own mark on the club.

2: All playing staff considered dead wood, for different reasons are being moved to clear the decks and give the club a fresh start after all of the past problems. Some players like Mount & Kovatic clearly want a new start, the club likewise.

The club are restructuring the payroll & it's finance model.

Like it or not this is what is happening, it has come as quite a shock , as dismantling the spine of the squad is questionable.

But the club does have a highly talented group of footballers to rebuild with, a top class manager and will more than likely continue to spend in this window another 150m +.

I do hope that helps

We’ve done well recouping money but we’ve lost so many key players that I’m not sure what to expect next season.

posted on 30/6/23

yeah its fckn crazy!

But looking at it realistically , they are a highly talented group of footballers, the club has backed them & the manager.

All of the negativity due to covid, the santions & all of lunacy surrounding the change of managers has gone, all disgruntled players will have moved on , it is afresh start.

But where will it put us ?

I think we will compete tbf, getting up to speed as a top 6 side maybe where we are at.

Top 4 ? yeah that is an ask , to far. But ? who knows!

Poch knows what he is doing

Jurys out on if they are a highly talented group of players.
Only ones we know for certain are

James
Silva
Chillwell
Enzo

And maybe 1 or 2 more im forgetting

How important is the acquisition of Caicedo to the project?
I heard from some Arsenal fans that they intend to fight for him and they feel confident despite Fabrizio saying Chelsea are leading in the race for the player.
Some MU fans also believe their hat is in the ring too.
Great news for Brighton, not so good for us.

I expect quite important or we wouldn't be going for him but according to the rumours I have seen, he is keen on us and a fee of 75m has been agree.

Until anything is official then we have to wait and see. If we don't get him I expect we will have another target lined up.

Brighton by all accounts now want 100m for Ciacedo:

? Gallagher + 50m: ?.

Spurs? I'd take them out of the equation Nick. Their squad of last season was heavily reliant on goals from Kane and to a lesser extent Son - other than those two, there isn't one player from last seasons squad that I felt would have strengthened our squad.

Maddison is a decent addition for them though, if he can stay fit. They need to add a lot more quality to their squad to compete for top 4 in my opinion!

About £200 million recouped in player sales so far this window and counting. Doubt that figure gets banded about too much as it's far too positive for the media. They'd rather keep telling everyone Mudryk is an £85 million player when in actuality we paid closer to £60 million for him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
plus about 100mill a year in saved wages so far. so ffp is tackled. the signings that come in now are in a different ffp year so being sensible with wages and may 2/3 good signings more we should be done for now there are still more to go out like Pulisic Lukaku Ziyech. get Colwill bedded in with help from Thiago, Gusto is greta cover for reece and if all is right caceido with Enzo and maybe gallagher will give us real bite in midfield we have hall and madueke for wide forwards as well as mudryk, i hope we can get Vlahovic in give us some much needed power up front along with Nkunku and Jackson Broja should be fit for preseason too. Looks like we are keeping Kepa and i think a good back up on a free could be de gea.
