Pogba
Rossi
Leicester won the league with two from our academy
Pogba - we recognised his talent and wanted to keep him but he ran his contract down and refused our offer.
Rossi - had a decent career at Fiorentina and Villarreal: mid-table clubs.
Pique - probably the best shout, but he was a Barca academy product whom we poached, and left because he had a phenomenal opportunity to play for Guardiola's first team rather than biding his time to succeed Vidic and Ferdinand.
Leicester - Evans left United at the age of 27 and with nearly 200 first team appearances for United. Are you going to cite him as an example of us not giving youth a chance? Drinkwater, Simpson and De Laet were decent professionals. Again, are you arguing their post-United careers suggest they should have been kept as first teasers?
Not every youngsters need to be a superstar to stay at the club. If we can have 2-3 as team player, it’s better than spending 30-40M odds to fill the space. AWB, DVB, Fred all costed a lot of money. I’d say none of them are any better than Drinkwater or Simpson could have been. Again we never know.
Drinkwater and Simpson finished higher than United once in their careers. It's a stretch to suggest they would have been upgrades on the squad players we had in their positions.
