Isn't Disasi at Monaco supposedly our back up? Just need to find someone to buy slabhead.

True but I don't think many clubs have more than 4 first team CBs options. It was bad luck, Varane got a foot injury that he's never had before and Martinez's injury was also out of the blue.

posted on 5/7/23

I’ve no idea. But I’m not sure it’s wise going from one Disasi to another.

We need a proper, quality CF and a CB to step in when Varane is unavailable. Neither Maguire or Lindelof are good enough to do so regularly.

Drop £100m on Levys desk and get Kane, which would instantly take us up a level. Tell him a United with him as the CF can win trophies AND offer him the chance to take Shearers record. That and the £300k per week would surely entice him.

..................DDG

.Dalot Varane Martinez Shaw

.....Bruno..Casemiro Mount

..Pellistri ....Kane Rashford

Then, with whatever we can get from sales, go and get a top up and coming, or Prem proven CB.

That's a proper strkng line up

With the exception of last season where every Chelsea player were gash (plus Mount was injured) The previous 3 seasons combined Mount has been top goal scorer, top assister and number 1 in chances created!

Can't understand why people aren't excited by this signing!

It's not always about signing the best players, it's about signing players right for your system/style of play. Had anyone really heard of Bernado silva or Gundogan before they came to City?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, but I get your point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. Both very underwhelming signings for City fans but both turned out to be massively important players for them. Pep knew they would fit his system and they did so perfectly!

Agree with this and use player sales to buy Onanna (is that spelt correctly?). Job done!

Are you really saying you'd never heard of Gundogan, a player at the heart of Dortmund's Bundesliga title and a team that regularly played at the sharp end of the CL (including a final)?

Silva was slightly more obscure but it's still the Mbappe Monaco team that put City out of the CL and made the semis. Also took PSG's title.

Your general point is absolutely sound but blimey they are two odd examples - I reckon 90% of football fans would have heard of both of them! All they needed to do was watch CL football.

Yes. Gundogan was one of the most highly rated midfielders in Europe for Dortmund but there were concerns about his injuries. B Silva had just had a brilliant season with Monaco along with Mbappe and Falcao. Both were very excting signing and I'm pretty sure many rivals were envious.

I probably used the wrong term with never heard of but both point still stands as you say. You don't have to buy supposed world beaters just players who play the way you want to play and also want to be there.

I said a few weeks back that if we can upgrade on De Gea, Eriksen and Martial in our starting XI that we should improve drastically and I'm hopeful we will.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is Mount an improvement on Eriksen? Never seen Mount reach any level Eriksen has been.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah he is.

He's not a world beater that is going to make us title contenders but he's better than Eriksen for sure. Eriksen really struggled last season physically in the last half of the season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But Mount was even worse last season. He was so bad that he even got dropped when Chelsea were awful.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Utd are desperate for a marquee signing so they want to hype up Mount who they are paying an astonishing amount as wages to secure him, and I am afraid I don't see what Mount brings to them?

Henderson - £20m
Fred - £15m
Bailly - Bag of chips
Elanga - £10m

Don't think those are unreasonable fees.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Bailly fee is a little optimistic, but otherwise

Especially with inflation and the price of chips nowadays.

The only chip I'd associate with Bailly is a chipped bone or something.

If we do sign Amrabat then I'm wondering whether EtH could see Casemiro as well as Shaw being CB options to cover Lindelof, Varane and Martinez.

So basically what Liverpool have done with Szoboszlai

Paying more up front for an unproven PL player who hardly lit up the bundesliga and no decrying United paying less up front for a first team player in the PL?

Yes, that could be true too!

I'm just pondering whether ETH may think he could make do with just the three recognised CBs (even though I don't think it'd be the wisest move) if we can't get the CB he wants.

posted on 5/7/23

That would mean we would have sold Maguire, though. So I’m pretty certain we’d sign a cb to at least be a squad player.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
You'd like to think so in an ideal world but, as it stands, it doesn't seem there's money there to buy someone to start ahead of Varane so I'd imagine it'd be a cheap, reliable squad option we'd go for. Someone who could play DM and CB would be a useful addition.

Why at the back said McT?

posted on 5/7/23

Depends what happens with the sale of the club and sales of players really.

posted on 5/7/23

Players that should be sold/released:

Williams
Telles
Bailly
Fred
Elanga
van de Beek
DDG
Henderson (although we would need a new number 2 if we got rid of both and bought Onana)

I can't see anybody else leaving, that list is as ambitious as it can get.

posted on 5/7/23

Inter director Ausilio on Man Utd bid for Onana: “As of today, the proposals are not at the level we expected”.

“In this moment he’s our GK and André is key player for us — we’d like to keep him, then we’ll see what happens. We wait for him on July 13 for pre season”.
