Fire Brigades tend to take them down now during the week of Guy Fawkes.
Used to spend weeks getting a bonnie ready for November when I was a wee guy.

Anyone got the link off the UVF surfer falling off it last year, probably waving to the picture of Gerry Adam’s as he passed and hit the deck.

It'd be nice if they could move into at least the 18th century.

I’m presuming you meant promote but nah, he’s a UVF surfer who knew the risks.
Personally I’d rather he was pushed.
But hey ho silver lining.
Historically bonfire groups could to apply for grants of up to £12k... But in doing so had to adhere to set preconditions on health and safety/pollutants.
But given the current economic climate grants have been significantly reduced. So rather than applying for a grant many bonfire groups have gone it alone, which meant they could pretty much do what they liked.
Many of the bonfires were constructed using wooden pallets and debris/waste that give off toxic fumes.
I assume the fires are related to some 12 July thing then?
