Is it any wonder that young lads outside of public schools don't play this sport anymore? Absolute nonsense how these series can be decided without sporting merit.

Either add an extra day or even two if needed. It's not like they are constantly running around like in other sports.

Outdated sport and needs to get with the times.

30 overs were wasted during the first three days of good weather. No excuses. Drink's breaks, players getting constant onfield treatment, ball changes etc etc. Plus Stokes batting on for two hours to long. England even had three hours yesterday to force a win. They weren't good enough.

Didn't realise that was in the UK? Why would I be bothered about over there? It's their national sport too.

Cricket in this country is being played less and less at high schools. I played it but they don't even teach it anymore at the same school I went to. Says it all.

It's going to be dry here tomorrow too. Game shouldn't be over. They should have a spare day or two just in case. The players haven't even played for 5 days so do they get paid for just the 4 days? I bet they don't.

I don't hate my country. Who said I did? I come from a military family that all fought for this country. I just happen to support Australia at cricket. Is there a law that says I cannot you plank.

Dry your tears fella. Didn't hear a peep out of any English supporters when the last day against India was wiped out a couple of years back, when they only needed 150 to win with 9 wickets left.

Huge congrats to Australia.

I've turned my back on England while we continue to use this comical, arrogant, ineffective Bazball style.

Aus lost all 4 coin flips, lost their key spinner, but still retained the Ashes overseas with a game to spare

Hopefully we take a look in the mirror and examine our failings, and cast aside Bazball - which ultimately has been a complete bust.

Seems very odd that 3 English people are happy England have lost

Well hello there my snooker buddy 👋, England could be 3 - 0 up, but Australia won the key moments in the first 2 tests, Bairstow was stupid... Simple as that, but if that horrific weather hasn't been around over the weekend, England would have won that test, setting up a fantastic finale at the Oval.. Oh, & Australia haven't won anything, the've retained the Ashes, as it stands they haven't won in England since 2001...

This is just bullsh£t, England contributed to their own demise with some hare-brained batting & a silly declaration but even so they were very unlucky to not be at least 2-2 at this point. There has only been one match where one side has been clearly better and that was England.

I would also add that Australia haven't won the series YET, they have retained the Ashes because they will at least get a draw now - that's not the same thing.

Everything was against them

Losing 4 tosses. Stokes still chose to bowl 3 times and batting first is generally the way to go regardless of conditions.

Hostile crowd booing them. This is standard stuff in an Ashes battle.

Missing Lyon for a lot of the series. England had Leach missing for all of it and then lost their vice captain and have had far more problems with injury.

not sure even even the Australians will say they've deserved to retain the Ashes yet. They were more ruthless with taking their chances in the first 2 tests and the old catches win matches was very prevalent. Chances that Australia did put down were far less costly too.

All in all, it's been a very good series sadly ruined by rain. The series deserved a decider which England would have been favourites for but here we are. The reality is, Australia will be under pressure to play more like England. Glenn McGrath has already come out and said it in his BBC article.

Regarding the catches, it's important to make the other team pay for drops, so not really something going aussies way. More like playing better.

How do you know England would have won the 4th Test? Australia may have gone on to get another 150-200 runs. Remember 1981 when England were still 150 plus behind, with only three wickets left, 500/1 with the bookies. And they still won. What's to say Australia would not have done the same?

And nonsense to say England could have been 3-0 up. The equally could have been 3-0 down.

Oh and Australia have won something, it's called the ASHES. However you care to dress it up.

Excuses from the England supporters are hilarious. You lost the Ashes to a better side. Just accept defeat a bit more graciously.

posted on 27/7/23

Lots of nonsense bring said about how England are going to just walk all over Australia in the final test, get a 2-2 draw out of the series and get a moral victory. What a load of bollox.

I expect this to be another draw or an Aussie win, depends on weather. Aussies been nowhere near their best, but still comfortably better than Engjand at their best. Better bowlers, batters, wicketkeeper.
