Could be that.

Istanbul is a great city tbf.

Also might not just be about the money for him. Maybe he was impressed with how much they wanted him and he values that above chasing Saudi cash?

Despite the headline signings the Saudi league will still remain a bit of a joke for the time being. The Turkish league is passionately supported and of an ok standard with a path to CL football.

I've not been to either but Turkey on paper has a fair bit more going for it than Saudi Arabia as a place to live.

Agree that you'd think he'd be able to find an offer at a higher level than Galatasaray anyway but perhaps he really hasn't or like you said fancies living in Turkey

Champions League football, a hugely passionate crowd and a wonderful city.

Seems better than Saudi to me…

Football is more than about moeny. He is going for the passionate supporters and historic clubs that you don't really get with the likes of Al Nassar, Al Hilal, Man City, Chelsea etc. In leagues that are trying to tempt players there just with money, despite having crappy fans, no atmosphere and about 10 years of history.

I kind of get it. They are in CL and are lowkey building a pretty decent team with players like Zaniolo, Angelino, Icardi, Mertens and now Zaha.

And not equivalent to Saudi, as said CL football will be in easy reach and I doubt the salary he is making in Turkey is significantly better than he’d make in England or Europe tbh.

Gala aint in the champ league, they have the qualifiers and in recent years they have really struggled to get through them.

We played them (rangers) last year in the 2nd champ league qual round and we were pretty comfortable against them.

He's quite a devote christian isn't he? Maybe he feels Saudi Arabia isn't for him. Obviously Turkey is also a muslim country but Istanbul seems far more western, CL football must also be a big pull and do clubs in Italy, Spain etc for his level offer that much more in wages compared to the big clubs in Turkey?

He’ll fail a medical anyway. Something to do with his teeths.

Istanbul is a superb city to visit but I wouldn’t want to live there.

Some posters on here would certainly have their morals put to the test.

Unless their culture has changed since I was there in 95.

To honest on a free transfer I'd not have been unhappy to see him come to us - he's played up front plenty of times and is actually pretty good with his back to goal as well so might have been decent cover to someone like Hojlund.

Maybe he just fancies a total change of scenery in an easier league.

After the disaster of his last transfer to us I can't imagine he has any desire to return.

Surprised Newcastle didn't come in for him. Seemed like a good fit, He would help them expand and elevate their squad without FFP issues, they could afford his wages, and they have CL football.

That’s a very odd choice for Zaha… there’s gotta be more to the story.
Something has happened in the world of football, to destabilise the Premier League..
The Prem league is still the strongest/best league out there, but, those heady days may be coming to an end.

I don't understand this argument about "morals" if you're alluding that western morals are > islamic morals.

You can't drink, have s3x outside marriage, it is mandatory to donate percentage of your wealth to charity, have to pray, believe in God, be kind to your parents and not lie or backbite and should not deal in interest (monetary) so it is MORE moral than hedonistic western values (nowadays) to me.

The homosexuality rules are the same as those written in the Torah and the Bible so it is the same belief. Ten commandments etc.

Just that as the years have gone by "Judeo/Christian" values seem to have become lost and turned on their head to what they were originally.

That's my take on it.
