Yes very good assessment of where the club is atm. I was pleasantly surprised yesterday and even Meslier has me thinking he could keep his first team place.

I still think we need another midfielder as it's more than likely Adams will leave and Ampadu who is getting a lot of praise and rightly so but if he gets injured we will be facked so I'm hoping the rumours of Kamara or Hamer joining us before the window closes are true.

According to a lot of reports Byram will be offered a contract this week so that will leave just one more piece in Farke's jigsaw to be filled and complete our recruitment with a new CB with that being either Nat Philips or the young U21 Man City player.

So less than a week till all this madness kicks off and all in all we don't look too shabby and it's dangerous I know with Leeds to count our chickens but apart from new striker situation frustratingly yet again not being resolved I am expecting the team with 2 or 3 more additions to be at least in the play off places....Let's hope this time next week my expectations have not been dented.

Farke has made a positive start and it is evident that the players enjoy the new style of play. They look fitter, more confident and puposeful. They look like they are enjoying themselves, which is what you want to see in the pre-season, and they are committing to his requirements.
Of course it will be different once the league kicks off, and a lot will happen, but in the time he has had, Farke has impressed me with his honesty and methods. He looks like he can get a lot more out of this team than any of the previous managers since Bielsa.
The injuries are a worry, though. How on earth do so many of our players end up injured when we haven't even kicked a ball in anger yet? It's tempting to point the finger at our medical team, but this is an ongoing problem for us. Is there an issue with our conditioning coaching, or the state of the pitch, or with the way our players throw themselves about? Honestly, I shudder every time one of them goes to ground.
Finally, how good is it to see Poveda coming back into the fray, Pascal looking more like his old self, Cresswell stepping up to the plate and even Byram looking like he could help us out?
It's been a much better pre-season than I expected. What do other posters think of it?

This from the article:

"Lessons have to be learned from previous years. Bamford, through no fault of his own, breaks down too frequently for a promotion contender to rely on him to deliver around 20 goals in a Championship season."

---------------
Sad but true.

During first season back in the premier league Bamford was one of the leading goalscorers and earnt himself an England call up. All seems along time ago now.

For me the absolute priority is a leftback.

Farke must feel the same way which is why he has bought in Byram to look at.

As much as I worry about him, he played more games in four years at Leeds then he has played in the 8 since he left, it makes sense to have someone you know in when you are in a pinch.

Dramah and Firpo out and a lack of other options at centre back makes a player like Byram, who can function across the back line, an attractive option to have in the squad.

If we went into the season with Charle Taylor at left back and Byram as back up... I could live with that...

Also, good article, well written and reasoned

The top priority by a country mile is a new striker & was even before yesterday.

Striker, centre-half & no 10 & we're in with a chance this season.

Looks like Everton have signed a new striker from the Portuguese league for £12 million so that must be the majority of their limited budget which surely means they've given up any hope of getting Gnonto.

As Oakwood has said on another thread I can only really see a new striker coming in on loan now but as with Ampadu we may be pleasantly surprised with what Farke has up his sleeve and bags us a real gem from out of nowhere.

Sorry Outwood... for some unknown reason my auto correct changes your name to Oakwood....Irritating technology does my head in.

Why on loan?

I can see us starting season with Ampadu, Darlo and Byram as our signings this summer.

if that is that case then that is really, really, really poor.

There is no other way to look at it.

Already we hear Darlow good business cos Newcastle wanted 5m, Byram makes sense cos Farke knows him etc.

We always seem to give owners get out of jail free cards.

We have last seasons uncohesive squad, but with half the players gone and a number injured.

I trust in Farke to do a good job, but feel he will be limited by the tools available, and point still stands from post Monaco match, where are the goals going to come from, for without those we just dont get promoted.

Fingers crossed injuries clear up soon, but real questions need to be asked of 49ers ability to deliver.

Yep, poor transfer window and was also hoping for these ‘oven-ready’ deals to materialise following the takeover.

Of those gone:

Rodrigo - wish he’d have stayed but understand.
Koch - jumped ship and don’t want him back now.
Wober - ditto (re: Koch).
Roberts - good luck to him at Birmingham.
Robles - wish he’d been offered something to stay.
Aaronson - delighted he’s gone, and DON’T RETURN.
Kristensen - ditto (re: Koch).
Roca - (ditto re: Aaronson).
Forshaw - probably for the best.
McKennie - as per Aaronson (but was on loan to us).

I’m not going to get into the loans fiasco again, other than to say those exits netted less than £5m for the club. Disappointing.

If we don't spend money on a striker it will be an absolute joke.

Looks like Kamara from Rangers could be a possibility.

On the loans to add to what I have said on other articles, it is getting on for an unprecendented level of incompetence and arrogance( "it's impossible for us to be relegated" mentality).Anything we do is against that backdrop.

To try and repair the damage we have to get the recruitment right and in no way can our business be done as its stands(and am sure it isn't)if we want to have any chance of getting out of this league. The days of gambling on players fitness to last the season, or having no left backs have to be over.

I think it's because we haven't sold anyone so these FFP rules are even stricter in the championship and you can only spend what you've presumably recouped in sales otherwise our friends at the EFL will take a lot of pleasure in punishing us.

We all expected to be selling a few from the likes of Meslier, Gnonto, Summerville, Harrison and Adams which would have given Leeds a decent budget. However as we are looking like keeping those players due to injuries and the Orta brigade doing a runner that has left the club with I'm guessing not enough dosh to buy all 3 or 4 players we still need.

If Leeds spend all what they are allowed to on Piroe for example which looks unlikely now anyway as again I'm guessing there's probably only about 7 or 8 million maximum and Swansea want at least 15 but let's say we got Piroe for 8 million then we'd have to do loan deals for 3 other players we need and the players we're reported to be after apart from Byram won't want a loan deal so that's why a loan arrangement seems the most plausible for a new striker and the spare cash we do have can hopefully wrap up at least a new CB and midfielder with Byram looking like coming in on a free.

Anyway I'm not 100% certain on any of this and it's only a load of speculation being banded around social media and drawing what could be spurious conclusions because how does anyone really know for sure how much money Leeds have to play with but we do know Farke's doing his very best trying to juggle things and put out a half decent line up on Sunday.
