It's a fair point actually
This is the way negotiations work GB. If you go in at £50m, they ask for £60m. If you value the player at £45m, you don't go £50m anyhow, you go lower and hope to meet at £45m, or with some good negotiation, get him lower than what you value him at. Of course sometimes the selling club don't budge and you end up paying their valuation anyhow but it would be an incompetent team who went in at the high end of their valuation. That's not how business works. Everybody tries to get the best deal they can get and usually they means compromise from both sides.

It's 50m deal. We don't wanna go over 45m which is hardly overpaying. Southampton have to pay City 20% of it so you can understand why they are standing firm.
