If the Saudi clubs continue then it’s a matter of time before the European clubs lobby UEFA to remove the rule in order to keep up with Saudi

Why? A few good footballers in SA won't make them world beaters. China tried it and didn't work.

This won’t slow down, it will become more intense. They are dropping serious money - they offered Mbappe £700m for one season.

Guardiola is already complaining about it, a sure sign that the threat is serious this time.

This is where you need FIFA to step up

....on a side note, as Rangers fan, whose club and league have been left behind as a result of nothing other than money.....can't say I'm all that unhappy about the Premier League's financial dominance coming under threat

Totally understandable and personally I would like a bit of a resetting in our league - I just don’t think it will happen. I think things will get worse, I think we will get a super league and I think that is part of the Saudi’s planning with this - force UEFA’s hand

I’m not normally part of the tin foil hat brigade but I can’t help it with this one

It’s an interesting one, as soon as the boot is on the other foot and the traditionally rich clubs are blown out of the water- change the rules.

Let’s be honest though - who is gonna watch this league? Which channels will pay to show it?

I couldn’t give a flying fig to watch football from Saudi Arabia. There’s enough footy as it is without another league.

Yes they can attract the big players with massive salaries but that doesn’t mean they will attract the people to actually watch them play - never mind pay for the privilege.

Any player that goes there should be told they are no longer in contention for their national team.

It doesn't make any difference. I don't care who wins or loses in that league and to be honest I barely care about the other European leagues. The standard of football isn't drastically going to drop, there's plenty of footballers in the world and when these players get tired of playing in the desert they'll come back.
Maybe there will be room for more English players getting top coaching in the PL.

This is all about Saudi Arabia's bid to co-host the 2030 WC along with Egypt.

In football and the wider world it seems some entities are beyond reproach. Almost a too big and well connected to fail. We are very much below that line and can be absolutely sure that an infringement of the FFP rules would see decisive and timely punishment. Call that what you will but firmly believe it.

Remember all the complaints from footballers about too hot to play in Qatar......

They should get rid of FFP. If Luton want to spend a billion quid in this market to have any chance of winning the league, then let them. The FA should franchise all the clubs and any debt should be personally on the owner(s).

Why?

Player's should be free to play for who ever they want and it shouldn't have any impact on their right to represent their national team.
We brought Pabs in from an Arabian team, double standards?

Jeez. YEP's reporting that Liam Cooper has an offer to go out to Saudi Arabia...

Yes, players have the right to go wherever they like. The money's too good to mention, after all, and our lot have just suffered a paycut to boot. It's a short career - poor buggers have to squeeze it when they can.

But rights also imply responsibilities. In theory, top players are supposed to be role models, to set an example to the rest of us. In theory, sportsmen supposed to represent the best in us.

I'm not sure collaboration with a murderously oppressive autocracy for a few oily dollars more really reflects the best in us.

I therefore really, REALLY hope and pray this is all just clickbait/bull, or if not, that Liam says FUQ THE MONEY, fuq Robbie Fowler, fuq the Saudis. Liam of all people, ffs!
