Two lessons from the Community Shield

What we really learnt is that City played over 60 games last season and have hardly rested. The mental, emotional and physical energy which they exerted was enormous and to expect them just to show up with the same energy 6 weeks later would be unrealistic. City will still be the team to beat this season.

City need to replace that dynamism Mahrez gave them, they will be fine but I are they better equipped than last season.

Not for me.

It really does look like the end of an era for City. It was really sad to see actually. A once great team looking so poor and never really looked like winning that trophy yesterday.

De Bruyne into his mid 30s
Haaland very poor again like he was in last year's community shield final
Pepe clueless and looks to have lost interest and ambition
Players leaving left, right and centre and not being replaced
The whole culture of the club needs to change.

City always start the season slow, nothing new here. They might be weaker but they will still be hard to beat

When pep saw Mahrez wasn't coming back he benched him for two finals which they won. They don't miss anyone, they replace them.

Drawing every match does not make you title contenders. In fact it would get you relegated. Invincible all season but relegated. Just goes to show that Arsenal going the whole season unbeaten actually wasn't a great achievement as even relegated sides could do that.

In the history of football no team has been relegated after going the whole season unbeaten. That's absolute tosh.

Pep’s always learning.

He probably wasn’t expecting penalties yesterday so we’re ill prepared. He’ll have the squad working on them ready for Athens

Oh come on that's a ridiculous statement no other team has got anywhere close to doing it. It's an achievement that has stood the test of time and will continue to do so.

Made no attempt to bring Haaland into the game yesterday. His main supplier came on when he went off but I am hoping that Palmer will blossom this season and Foden will play inside as a No 10 quite a lot. The team will be fine, although a LB would be well received, Akanji did ok and Ake will be the main LB but some pace to replace Cancelo would be good. RB is well covered with Walker, Lewis and Stones but LB less so.

I've got a feeling Palmer is off, hope I'm wrong on this as he does look like he's getting what's required, he looks quicker and more determined. It sounded like Pep and Palmer interviews hinting at lets wait and see where he ends up.

Gvardiol will start out as a LB I would imagine.
