The season starts here ....
Difficult to know whether we will go with Colly and Nats, or with Wash and Wags. (Sounds like a seedy massage parlour!
Personally I would go with Washington and Collins, let the former run the channels and tell the latter to stay between the sticks. Another week, no news on signings so we are still short of what we need. We are in great need of a win. We might have pencilled in 7 or even 9 points from the next three games before the season started but it looks a tough task at the moment. Things can turn around quickly though.
Brings to mind a neighbour, who morosely contemplating the local development plan said "weel, if was any good......it wouldn't be happening here laddie......" đĽ. đ´ó §ó ˘ó łó Łó ´ó ż

Looks like Croatian top in blue.
Now if only we can get some decent Croatians in!!!!
Seems our bid for Billy Smart and his circus is being hijacked by LA Galaxy …
When we were in the third tier previously we didn't go head hunting around the footballing knackers yards, we found a hungry striker from the lower leagues.
This seems a better policy as they don't cost too much in transfer fee and wages, and if they come good you have a gem of a player. Somewhere along the way we stopped scouting this type of player.

The impression would be our head of recruitment would be scouring the lower divisions for the rough diamonds.
PW appears to want ready made / seasoned players gof the first team ( that's the way it's come across so far) and any players with potential go into Academy. The two lads from Rangers would be the most likely to transition to first team.
It's as simple as that. Just sign a "hungry striker" from the lower leagues and Bob's your uncle. How hard can it be ? It's not as if any other clubs are trying to do the same thing, after all.

Well they might start if they come on here looking for recruitment advice
Maybe we should sign every single striker, even those that are just a bit peckish as opposed to ravenously hungry. That would increase our chances of ending up with a gem. It's obvious that we just aren't bothering to "scout".

Well Warne believes it's as simple as signing an experienced striker at the end of his career. I have to say it worked well last season but it is not a sustainable policy.
We haven't really scouted the lower leagues since Nigel Clough left. Jamie Vardy was kicking his heels at Stocksbridge and Fleetwood in those days but we signed Ben Pringle. No doubt there are other decent players rejected in their teens who could make the grade at Div 1 level, or hopefully better. Brian Clough was always ready to give lower league players a chance and he seemed to know a bit about signing players.
In those days, all games weren't televised and managers like Clough relied on getting a whisper form a contact about a promising player. These days there are no secrets. Every player around the globe is "scouted" to within an inch of his life. There are few if any undiscovered gems that everyone doesn't already know about. Almost anyone who looks a decent prospect is hoovered up by a Premiership team and then loaned out to see how they develop. We have more chance in recruiting discards from other Academies, but those players aren't ready for the first team. And we are still under strict budgetary restrictions. It's easy to say "scout better and sign gems". Other clubs are looking just as hard for the bargains and a lot of them have more cash than we do.

My dad liked Gracie Fields!
I'm sad about Rochdale and we must be careful not to join them. Tomorrow's game is very important, we can't afford to lose.
You are dead right there VC. I will try to do my bit, small though it is.
I've predicted a BA win on Banno's league, so the Rams are safe. đđť
