I think that's basically it. Force Maguire out by making him 6th choice. Also let's Jonny continue with his coaching development, help with our home grown quota, and have a another leader in the dressing room.
What a pointless signing. Surely we have a youth player who’s more useful than a guy who could barely get in the Leicester side last season?
No real issue with this. He'll not get many minutes but having a PL proven emergency backup in the squad for free and likely on small wages doesn't hurt. Plus he brings his experience to the table in a squad that has a fair few younger and newer faces.

See Garnacho's post for why it makes sense. Robb having a mare again.
Rather have Steve Bruce back than Evans, he’s probably quicker

What difference does it make whether slabhead is 5th or 6th choice CB? Either way he isn't likely to much at all and is clearly staying for the money. Evans staying won't make him change his mind about moving, only getting a big wage or pay off from United will.
If he's this year's Tom Huddlestone / Paul McShane and the suicidal gesture that breaks Harry Maguire in our ongoing game of chicken, it's a clever idea. If he ends up getting serious minutes for the first XI, it's a confirmation of our strategic weakness in the transfer market.

Forgot to add that you've never seen him play.
Maguire will end up leaving but probably on loan which does us no good whatsoever in terms of our finances. His wages were always likely to be a sticking point to sell him.
The Jonny Evans contract makes sense given how our defenders are not exactly injury-free.
Victor Lindelof: 35 games
Lisandro Martinez: 45 games
Raphael Varane: 34 games
Eric Bailly: Averages less than 20-games a season
However, I would not be surprised if Ten Hag ends up using Maguire once he realises a 35-year old Evans is not going to be enough.

It doesn't make sense in that regard because if it's about covering for injuries, the minimum requirement is that the player coming in must not be constantly injured themselves. Evans is likely to be injured if we are in such dire straits as to need to call upon him
Might as well have just kept Jones.
