What a terrible thing to say. England winning today will inspire hundreds, if not thousands, of girls to take up football.

Ever since the USA's first game (I originally had them as favourites), I've felt pretty confident about the England women winning the tournament. Tough opposition today of course, but I think they'll do it.

Standard has been a bit shiiiit at times but technically the womens game has really progressed.

Hardly anyone in Spain had much belief in this side. After coming such a long way in such little time, a public player revolt against the coach shortly after the Euros threw the whole setup into turmoil. Although some have since returned to the fold, I think 15 players were initially sidelined from the team.

Here at the World Cup, during the Japan game there was loud sabre-rattling from former NT players turned pundits, but the side has nevertheless pulled together and unexpectedly fought their way through to the final.

It's also worth remembering the huge struggle England faced in order to beat them on home soil at the Euros, when Spain had lost their two best players at the time to injury.

That was probably a more settled Spain side though, and along with the Euros title, England under Wiegman have acquired a resilience and winning mentality that I also think will see them through.

Hope our girls do it, of course, but given the huge talent in the pipeline and recent years of success at junior and youth levels, it actually feels like this final has come sooner than expected and that Spain's best days are yet to come.

wouldn't say I'm super interested in women's football, but I'm interested enough to know a little bit, plus to watch most games during the tournament.

Lioness's clear favourites for the tournament, certainly since USA were knocked out and we bottled the final, also, that stamp by James was pre-meditated, and utterly awful.

my gripe is, the media not once have had a deserved pop at them, why is that? because lets be honest, in the men's game, they would have been a huge backlash over the poor finish to the toruny. The manager, who has lost what 3 finals on the trott would be up for the chop too.

role models? - I mean, we're trying to stamp out (pardon the pun) the ugly side of the game, why are we lording our lioness's?

great team, but this world cup has been a disaster - lets have the media recognise this, like we would in the men's game. we're all striving for diversity and acceptance right? - then lets be consistent on what is right and wrong in sport.
