Heard the usual moaning about having to play at the weekend prior to a euro midweek and how other euro fa's help their teams by postponing domestic games and that the ours is backwards, surely at this early stage of the season teams should want games?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Aye...and to make matters worse it was all nonsense as PSV actually played on Saturday.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
there you go then !
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They won three one. Not sure what Beale was up to there. Mental really.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And just to compound our woes, CCV out for long term as is Welsh. Neither apparently have any chance of playing at Ibrox nor indeed for some time after.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
CCV is out. Unlucky.
FFS if we had the same team as last year we would win the league this season
Instead we're building the car while the driving it down the motorway racing a banger with bits falling off it. Will the banger hold together be quicker than the new car gets built (also will we find out we're building a Lada rather than a nice dependable Volvo)
get this season in the bin man.
literally nae good news so far.

cant really win though.
last season we all said we needed about 6-10 new players, the squad needs an overhaul.
When we bring in 10 players throught pre season we say they will need time to gel. the first couple of months gonna be a slog, til the players get up to speed. I cant remember anyone disagreeing with these points.
The season starts, "we signed too many players" and we have started the season not in great form and the "players dont have that chemistry on the park".
And we all moan and say its not good enough !!
If we win this season it will be unexpected from me and means that celtic fumbled the ball big time.
They are there for the taking.
We are not there for taking it currently.
I think we can both rightly moan, they've went backwards and our rebuild albeit early days looks no better than what came previously.
Both managers making decisions that seem like cutting off their nose to spite their face with certain players. In the next month it should shape up, one or both might get themselves motoring.
I don't think we signed too many players, i do think we signed the wrong players in a few cases and I think we need more. Namely a fooking decent wide option.
I think the first OF will be interesting. If Rangers win it I think we possibly start to look to be favourites - assuming both teams pick up full points this weekend of course.
Celtic will go in to that game weaker but the concern for Rangers is whether there is enough goals in the team to take advantage. I actually think we look pretty decent back to middle but its the final third we are very disjointed. Maybe that will settle with more games together.

Think its pretty clear that we are still looking to add a centre back and ball carrier. We will likely look different if we can get those players in. I think the outlook also changes depending on how the next few games shape what kind of player Danilo is. So far I think most would agree there is something there but he's been inconsistent within games. With 5 or 6 starts we will get an idea of whether or not he is the goalscorer we needed. If he is then the demands on some of the others will ease off.
I think the first OF will be interesting. If Rangers win it I think we possibly start to look to be favourites - assuming both teams pick up full points this weekend of course.

Yep clearly a long long way to go and not by any means declaring the winner champions. But the narrative & outlook changes significantly for both teams, particularly with Celtic already knocked out a cup.

Yeah I think thats fair and thats why I think that first game becomes crucial. I say that really more so for Rangers.
But given Celtic's dominance really over the last 10 years or so that game presents Rangers an opportunity to put Celtic under the kind of pressure with an outcome they haven't been faced with for that time period other than the year we won it. Just think it creates a really interesting dynamic. Lets be honest Celtic and the support didn't handle falling behind Rangers a couple of years ago and it played a big part in the outcome of the season.
we done the most celtic thing ever, had 2 great years, everyone happy with football, everyone happy with manager.
so of course our choice to replace him would be to bring in a guy who divides our support and plays boring football.

Rodgers is a top Manager so I don't think Celtic will fall away. It's just whether he can get the existing group to change to his style.
I would say though I'm slightly surprised by your signings, I was expecting you to go a couple of gears up the way you did the last time he came in. I'm not writing any of them off but with the £25m you got for Jota and the existing financial advantage over us I was expecting a couple of statement signings in the Sinclair/Dembele mould.
In other news, Kamara now off to Leeds for £5.5m. Great return on the £50k.
With Colak and Sakala also gone for money thats a decent summer of outgoings with close to £15m raised without it damaging the first 11. Hopefully a few more still to go and potentially some more money in. Add to the wages of the 5 who left at the end of their contracts and the net spend so far can't be very high.
Looking forward to tonight's game definitely more in hope than expectation. Qualification has its obvious financial advantages plus an almost guarantee of no European football after Christmas as opposed to the opportunity to actually compete in the Europa with the possibility of playing in February and juggling domestic cups and league games.

The club has performed best with a swashbuckling style. The supporters want a swashbuckling style. The players will tell you they want a swashbuckling style. But naw, possession, horseshoes and static front men.
Rodgers was great for the club 1st time. Results aside he raised the bar behind the scenes and created lots of good. Ange raised the bar on recruitment and style. It is not that hard to at least find someone that plays the same way even if the relationships are different?

Do injured players take longer to come back when there is discord at a club?
Rangers have pretty much changed the entire middle to front in the last 8 months.
We played the whole of last season pretty much only ever having 3 players available for attacking positions;
Morelos/Colak (they were rarely available at the same time)
Kent (checked out, empty jersey)
Sakala (not an actual striker, completely unreliable)
We now have;
Suma
Dessers
Danilo
Lammers
Roofe
Lawrence (on his way back anyway)
Theres no doubt it will take time to work out how best to use these players. Some might have natural chemistry, some might not.
Players form will go up and down but the good thing this season is that if one or two of the forwards arent doing it we have options to give other players a chance.
Last year when Morelos was turning in his usual 4/10 performance the only real option we had was to put Sakala on as a central striker - which we know hes pash at.
Kent played the vast majority of the time despite also being lucky to scrape a 4/10 for the season.
I think we are in a much better position squad wise than we were last season and there has been some great work done. Revitalising the midfield with Raskin, Cantwell and Cifuentes for £2m whilst apparently getting £5m+ for Kamara is a bit ridiculous.
I still think we need another 10-15 games before we have a settled look. But in one off games like tonight anything can happen.
A new director with wealth off the radar and 5.5m for Kamara. Great day so far, hope it continues
