It is a one match ban offence. Of course he got 1 match.
Surprised he hasn't been charged for how he reacted though, took an age to leave the pitch and mouthed off at the ref.
Whilst I thought it was a sending off is that sorta red card not always a 1 game ba?
Also, it was not a mistake. Pretty standard denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity red.

Agreed. Only an obvious foul when slowed down and the sort of major decision that got given the benefit of the doubt before VAR. A little bit harsh given how fine the margin was but hey ho.
Ref was bang on you biased melt
Poor boy didn't know what he was doing ! you have to feel sorry for him don't you
He could have received extra for the way he left the pitch, telling the referee he's a joke etc but one game is correct for the offence he was sent off for.
Not sure if the referee saw what actually happened but if he did it was a great call as I most people only just about thought red after seeing numerous replays. Shame about his refereeing during the rest of the game.

Agreed
Think it surprised us all how quick he was to go for the red on that, if hes seen that real time well done but i think the fact most of us needed multiple looks at it in replays throws doubt on that.
Also Newcastle had numerous players asking for VVD to be sent off, as they did Trent not one got a card for it
No issues with the red itself it turns out it was the right decision and 1 game is right. Virgil was lucky no further action was taken for how he handled the red though.
Poor refereeing performance overall again though, no surprise there.
Ref missed the Gordon foul on TAA, then failed to send TAA off for his foul on Gordon
Think we are already seeing some refs softening their stance on the clamp down promised in the summer. That leads to massive inconsistency, and angers everyone.

I don't think he missed it, how could you miss it? He just decided not to give it. The same as he decided not to give TAA a second yellow, which whilst soft, was deserved. It was a really strange performance that looked like he was trying to annoy players and then show his dominance when they became annoyed. His face when speaking to the players

Happens every season. They bring in this new stuff they're clamping down on and once they see a crazy amount of penalties, offsides, handballs, yellow cards, red cards etc. they soften it going forward. Remember the holding in the box penalties? That lasted about two weeks.

My ABSOLUTE pet hate is the holding in the box from corners or FKs, really wish refs would clamp down on it over a period and it would hopefully soon stop after a few pens

Yeah. It's a minefield however. You've got about 15 players in the box, trying to create space or block space all vying for the same ball. It's impossible for a referee to see everything in that scenario as he can't be looking at every player. It would need to be a VAR thing but I think they've just accepted it as part of the game now after trialling awarding penalties.
Disappointing asi agreed with them doing that too and i think if they were consistent with it we'd eventually stop seeing it or a lot less. None of us want to see players begging for opponents to be booked, time wasting or stopping play from resuming quickly at free kicks etc either. But looks like they've already eased up on that or decided certtain teams can get away with it.

Yeh, can remember that, seen some where the defender has both arms wrapped around the attacker and nothing happens but you're right, its not going to change so just have to get on with it
The mistake was not giving him a 2 match ban for the abuse he gave the ref.
I think it's about as clear a red card as you'll see
He got 1 match because that is the punishment for that offence, it absolutely should have been increased to 2 matches though for the way he carried on.
TAA should also have been sent off, but predictably the referee bottled the decision.
Last week you were given a penalty for a dive with the game evenly poised at 1-1.
3 games in and the Varpool favoritism is clear for all to see, which is no surprise.
What's the howler? Red card offence that carries a 1 match ban. Will he have further charges? Probably for taking so long to leave the field.

?
Trent got away with the 2nd yellow because the ref knew he'd already screwed up.
He didn't dive for the pen and by the letter of the law, it was a pen. Harsh? Yes. I don't think pens should be given if a player is heading away from goal like that.
As for VARpool... hahaha! Where was our pen against Chelsea when Jackson clearly flicked his fingers out to move the ball? Should be 3 wins from 3 really.

You do know that Bitter Billy is the one that got caught out mocking Hillsborough, don’t you? It’s amazing he still has the audacity to carry on like this, so you’re clearly not going to get anything remotely sensible from him.
If we're keeping count.
First game Jackson handball, Liverpool didn't get a penalty.
Second game Mac Allister sent off. Rescinded.
Third game TAA booked after referee decided not to give a freekick for TAA being barged in the back and nearly being sent into the advertising boards and rather than booking the Newcastle player for a clear foul booked the Liverpool player who showed his frustration at the referee not wanting to give the freekick.
VvD has been charged with abusive language and refusing to leave the pitch. Might be 3 games afterall...
