He is probably preferable to Maguire to be fair. ETH may call up Fish but he looks pretty kak to me.

In all seriousness here though perhaps this is time for Ten Hag to be a little bit more pragmatic with his set up if he has to introduce Lindelof or Maguire into the starting XI.
Set up to defend a little deeper and it'll help Casemiro IMO and it'll also, in theory, provide the likes of Rashford space to move in behind.
Varane is quality when he's fit but he's sadly not getting over these injuries is he?
Lindelof lacks the pace of Varane but is a pretty good front-foot defender. I think he's fine in a high line. Probably slightly better on the ball than Varane too.
Maguire I would worry about.
Varane is the best player at club when fit imo but he’s made of weetabix.
If we do get a decent offer we should be considering it.
I wd play Maguire over Johnny Evans. Both are slow but Evans is considerably worse

We knew Varane was going to get injured at some stage.
We should've signed Kim Min-jae instead of Mount at the start of the summer.
Still a few days to go but right now it's looking like another underwhelming and poorly thought out summer window.

I'd have spent the £200m on Kane and Kim Min Jar and renewed DDG for another 12 months.
Who can we get in, anywhere near as good as Verane?
Kim was rumoured but he’s at Bayern, Disasi now at Chelsea.
Yes the money would be nice but it won’t be easy finding a replacement this late in the day.
We must have had a short-list when trying to shift Maguire. We were linked with Todibo (along with Pavane, who has now moved to Inter) and he looked a good prospect to cover and eventually replace Varane: physically powerful, and potentially better than Varane on the ball.
I don't share Process's 'best player at club when fit' verdict on Varane. An exceptional box defender but a fairly limited passer, who teams identified as the one they wanted on the ball in the build up phase (at least if Dalot rather than AWB was at right back).
We obviously weren't planning to shift him this summer and preferred to sell Maguire and replace with cover, so I don't see a Saudi sale happening now he's injured. But if there's a chance of selling Maguire at the death of the window and bringing in a replacement, there's even more urgency to do that now.
Varane signed a 4 year contract for United. He probably earns 300K + a week. Hes a great players when fit but he is very fragile and gets long injuries it seems.
No club that could afford him and wants him is daft enough to take him on whilst paying him that much. (Bar Saudi Arabia)
Except for Man United.
So we have him for the duration.
Same with Casimero.

Probably a year or two too early but Willy Kambwala looks a very promising player. Seen by some as the biggest talent from 16-18 year-olds hoovered up in Ed Woodward's shopping spree in 2020. Sidelined by a nasty injury but back now and performing really well.
