You have been a counterattacking team ever since fergie left.

What does the Hafi data analysis bot make of it all - did the data suggest United should have won 7-2 today??

Why will the next two weeks be awful?

International breaks are the best part of the season nowadays.

I am just hoping that we look better once we have a proper cf leading the line. I thought Hojlund made a few good runs that weren't seen by teammates. Hopefully after he beds in we improve.

Would rather have Bailly on the bench tbf over Maguire and Johnny Evans

This. Maguire especially. We should have paid him to leave. Mengi surely is better than this. Fish too. Just get rid of him.and cut our massive losses

True. But we were told that was all going to change with ETH.

I do remember us getting rid of Van Gaal precisely because of the type of football that we're currently watching from this team this season.

We got rid of Van Gaal because he failed to get top four.

This isn't LVG. We just have an incredibly woeful team we are taking the worst way to solve. To me we probably need

3 CD (just look at what we have now)
2-3 new midfielders (our midfield 3 is so flimsy possession wide and defensively. Casemiro is looking off and Eriksen is not a midfielder for this level of football.)
2 new strikers (for when martial eventually leaves)
2 right sided forwards (when we finally sell Amad and Pellestri)
1 left and right fullback.

We have so many holes, ETH tried to fill them up.

I'm not sure Ole-ball is a fair description but ETH only recently said that the style of play he uses with us isn't the same as at Ajax (or Utrecht) because of the players he has.

Our biggest attacking threat comes from two players who are notorious for some of their daft decision making and giving the ball away super cheaply. They produce moments that mask their performances overall. Rashford, who produced a big moment today for us, and Bruno, who I thought was poor again.

Casemiro is also an unreliable passer of the ball for us at the moment (his completed passing % for us is in the lower 80's, whereas for Madrid it was the mid to upper 80's). A lot of our possession play breaks down before it's really had chance to begin.

It makes quick, slick and incisive passing moves in the opposition's half very difficult when you've got three players making bad decisions or lacking patience in their play, and another attacker, Antony, who's best work seems to be as a workhorse rather than an attacking threat.

Hojlund looked a real handful when he came on, which is good. And Amrabat will hopefully help us a bit more both off the ball in midfield as well as on it.

AWB and to a lesser extent Varane also infringe upon our ability to pass the ball through the opposition's press or to fire accurate passes into tighter areas/defensive low blocks.

There's clearly work to be done but we do need to see things start to click more across the entirety of the pitch from back to front.

It’s largely down to our best players only being able to play that way.

Agree, and you won’t hit gold with every signing either. We’ve had to sign cheap players like Eriksen, Evans, Regulion, to cover the holes.

You can certainly argue Antony and Mount aren’t good value or the priority players, but as I say, you can’t get them all right.

Not signing a CB could literally derail our whole season before it has even started if Martinez is out for more than a game or two.

Today I think we were unlucky, could’ve gone either way. That’s where we are at away from home Vs big team, the big moments have to go your way, they haven’t versus spurs and arsenal.

Is that all?

We can barely make any money selling players to fund all that.

I think unfortunately we've come to accept that this guy will just never show up in any big away match.

I've always maintained that it was a baffling decision to give him the captaincy.

Bruno is the reason we got 3 points against Forest (and Rashford).

This is our issue, our best players are only great in moments, for 95% of the game Bruno and Rashford aren’t very good in general build up play:

People will point to his "big chances created" stats and other such things, but for me his numbers in that regard are inflated simply by how often he tried the hollywood pass. He's also not passing the eye test for in that regard either - I'd absolutely love to see video evidence of what these "big chances" are that keep getting registered in his favour.

Those stats also don't really account for just how much of a problem his giving the ball away is for us. It's not just that he gives the ball away (most attackers do), but the manner and timing of it; often giving the ball away shortly or immediately after we've finally regained possession of the ball, and not allowing us to alleviate pressure or build into the game with a spell of possession of our own. His antics are infuriating.

I'll admit I'm not his biggest fan (I know I'm risking Rosso coming at me here!), but there was a time when his G/A numbers compensated for his sins. That's increasingly not the case anymore.

I'm hopefully that Hojlund's threat in behind plus physicality and ability to pin CB's and create space to play and run off helps to bring more out of Bruno in terms of goals and assists because without his output he can be a real liability.

If he wasn't partly responsible for bringing in Mount (who might just work eventually against weaker teams) and Antony, he is doing quite well with what he has. As we stand, not even sure West ham would trade place with our midfield (I still say Ward Prowse over Mount would have made do much of a difference).

We need to start the Chelsea model. 25-30 million players with cheapish salary who at least work their arrrssse out. Get 6 of them and hope half pans out. Till then it will never be solved. As one gets solved, one will become a problem.

Rashford and Bruno are our 2 most creative players. Without them we would be struggling, (more than we currently are. Another chit start for a new season). Yet some insist on slagging them off. We are lucky to have them compared to some of the wasters in that team.
