Yep it’s astonishing. Despite the age of science and technology we live in, much of the world still seems to be populated by peasants who hold beliefs akin to the fecking Middle Ages.
Jesus Christ, do people still believe in that crap?
Each to their own, if you wanna believe in thousands dying horrible deaths being part of God's great plan wire in, but, don't then turn around and tell me your God means Love and is merciful.

Can see this ending up in a really good debate.
Answers? Ok...its bs. Religion started when people believed the gods were angry because the sun was blocked out....they sacrificed people and looked to the sky for answers....then the sun reappeared and they thought the reason was the gods were pleased with their sacrifices!!
Now...we have evolved to understand something called an "eclipse"....and we know it's nothing to do with "gods", its science and planetary movement.
Some people ha e not evolved and still believe in ancient complete and utter BS! And I find it outstanding people still cant grasp reality.....

Who knew Richard Dawkins was a JA606 user.
Belief/faith is not about your God making you immune from bad things
In dealing with things people will often say " it was meant to be" "everything happens for a reason" as a means of dealing with adverse situations. When I was a younger man my wife and I lost 3 pregnancies before Devon Jnr was born and 2 more before Devonshirespur II. Traumatic at the time but now I have 2 amazing sons and would not change it for the world. My wife uses both those phrases to frame those hard times in a wider view. we're not faith people.
For some people they just asign a God to the reasoning that these things happened for a reason. It helps people accept it more if they feel if is part of a bigger picture, a grander scheme, one you don't have control over or necessarily understand but is ultimately a higher purpose.
That's fine with me
Theres a lot more to religion than just believing in a god. Im an atheist but i've seen and can see what good religion brings to many. Also the bad, but is what it is, nothings perfect.
got better claims that liverpool have the best player (and manager) in the world in each position every season, i'm not sure he should be dissing irrational beliefs on here
The trumpets will soon sound and Christ will return for those who are His. Are you ready? Have you accepted His FREE gift of salvation which was given for all mankind when He shed His blood for you on the hill of Calvary?
The Bible warned us that natural disasters would increase in number and intensity, one of the many signs of the last days (Matthew 24). So to anyone who believes the Word of God Almighty, all these horrors happening right now, as bad as they are, knows these things have to happen because God warned us and if anything, it just solidifies our faith that what God says is true and increases our faith and trust in Him. In every circumstance good or bad, believers are encouraged to praise God

I'm with you on this.
Complete atheist as well, but you could also argue that along with major advancements in so many fields, our relentless pursuit of progress and scientific discovery has led us to live on the brink of a complete climate collapse and under the permanent threat of nuclear armageddon.
As to the OP, another common denominator in almost all of these countries is that when they've turned away from religion and come under the influence of secular or atheist regimes, they've still found themselves coming under the boot of tyrants and dictators anyway, with large multinational corporations leeching their natural resources and raw materials.
Years of geopolitically-motivated foreign intervention on behalf of the world two main secular blocs are a very large reason for the huge mess Libya is in right now - who are Libyans supposed to turn to? Surely their fairy in the sky can't be worse than any other 'superior power' they've been subjected to for the past 100 years.

What’s the point of this article? Such a random thing to get frustrated about lol. Let them live.
Why are people so angry about something they don't think exists?
Imagine voting Tory but getting angry that somebody believes in God.
I find it amusing that people are so scared of religion.
It's not compulsory to subscribe to a religon and the vast majority of people who take their beliefs seriously live peaceful lives.
Apologies to the OP if he's been bummed by a priest, attacked by a jihadi or has been struck over the head with a menorah.

Tell that to god
The problem with religion is that it gives some people an out. Whether it’s people in charge of the planet now who can happily destroy the planet and just tell themselves they’re off to paradise when they die or the common folk who don’t question the status quo and allow the world to be plundered and bad things to happen because they know they’re odd to heaven.
As far as I’m aware Christianity (and other religions perhaps) was a way of getting slaves to keep their head down and not right back as they knew they always had a better place to go when they died. In some ways that’s never really changed.
I get that religion is a great comfort blanket and even as an atheist I’d probably be praying to god if I was on a plane plunging into the ocean but I’d hope that eventually society as a whole will grow out of religion and embrace the paradise on earth we could have now.
Excuse the terrible grammar. Drunk and on my phone
