Reflections on the Championship

11) Having once been a stalwart of the top division, it seems we’ve become a yo-yo club. Still, it gives us something to celebrate every couple of years … and here’s hoping we get to celebrate next May👍.

4 is an important point. Looking at the 3 that went up last season can see all 3 coming back down - so far they’ve played a total of 16 and 3 points between them.

Everton and Bournemouth lucky kaants. Had we invested in a striker last season we’d have been in PL knowing chances of going down slim with those 3 teams.

After being dissapointed going down, I am now in the frame of mind that if we had scraped another year in the prem, we would be forever doing the same every year ?. Where we now see a decent coach and some better players, would it have happened if we had stayed up ?. We may have still had Alladice at the club, or even worse. It may be for the better to have what we have now in the championship and a great chance to have some proper stability with new owners, new coach and new players. I think under the guidance of Farke we may be seing a new dawn that will last. That's what I am hoping anyway.

1. Standard is poor, little competition compared to last time.

2. We should be waltzing up based on some of displays so far. Not even at full tilt yet imo but warming up nicely.

3. Nice to be competitive again, instead of being whipped every week.

4. No VAR is way better. A goal is a goal again, its way more enjoyable.

5. Still think we look too strong for this league, but not good enough for the prem. Plenty of improvements to make if/when we get there. I do fancy a crack at a decent prem side in the FA Cup though. Think we'd upset someone.

For sheer enjoyment, the Championship wins every time. Two of the most gloriously enjoyable seasons I can remember were the first two with Marcelo in the Champ. Yes I, too, feel that we're just warming up and providing we don't succumb to injuries, we should (I say 'should' ) comfortably go up automatically. The last two years in the Prem were painful and, at times, downright embarrassing, so when we do go up, lets hope Farke is the man to keep us there.

But the previous 8 years in champ, were so painful, miles and miles worse than last two in prem.

Think 30 points in prem, could keep you up this year.

Never been a worse three teams, that have gone up.

Worst premier league on record. Plenty of poor sides saved by sheer numbers other dross sides. Us and Leicester would have stayed up had we had those 3 sides in it.

Getting relegated was the best thing that could have happened to us at that point. Yes, we now have a long hard struggle to get promoted again but relegation has forced the club to rebuild.

The new management seems to be doing a pretty good job (notwithstanding the problem of the players on loan and the fact that Kinnear is still CEO). The club seems to have switched generally from a wholly negative trajectory onto a much more positive one in a very short time, and we're watching some good, enjoyable football again.

The bottom line is that without Farke, we'd still be going nowhere fast, whatever division we were playing in.

And for me, the really exciting thing about Farke is that he's hungry for PL success - he'll stick with us when we go up because he still has something to prove.

The Championship is the closest thing we have to the Division 1 of the 70's and 80's...more of an even playing field, even though you'd think the teams coming down have a massive advantage...they really don't. Well run counts in this league!

"Getting relegated was the best thing that could have happened to us at that point. Yes, we now have a long hard struggle to get promoted again but relegation has forced the club to rebuild"

Thing is Jaz, I hear you on this but something not sitting well at all, we should have never of been a position to have to re-build, MB had done all that for us and we really needed to push on, poor ambition shown by the then owners the previous summer mixed with a bit of bad luck with injuries.

never should have been any negative vibes at all, far too early to blast them, plus doesn;t hat statement alone underline what a results game it is?

""And for me, the really exciting thing about Farke is that he's hungry for PL success - he'll stick with us when we go up because he still has something to prove.""

totally agree with this...

further more, it was only 4 weeks ago I was reading things like "we're clearly not in good hands", from A14 (a great poster btw, cricket and football on here), seems a balanced lad but got taken in with all the negativity in the media, from people who had no idea if these decisions were good or bad.

You do not think these Loan deals were not bad deals 🤦

Got away with it (still problems coming further down the line) due to the massive advantage of parachute payments.

its not my call tho mate, no idea... what I am seeing is decent stuff on the field, and if I'm honest, all I really care about.

also, "got away with it", seems an odd statement when you think about in this context... I mean, decisions turned out not bad now but could be later... isn;t that every decision ever made by anyone?

seems to me like even you knew you may have jumped the gun... just saving a bit incase we start losing games pal or what?

If all you care about is on field, then dont comment on things people, do care about, ie off field stuff 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Got away with it, due to the standard of the champ this season. Dont see how hard that is to understand 🤦

Weve given everyone a head start 🤦

Jump the gun on what 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’ve consistently said I think we will walk promotion.

But if your happy with how things went in the summer, fair enough 👍

On field progress has been very encouraging - Well done Farke and the team.

Off field, the whole loans saga has been typical 'only at Leeds'.

How it is resolved next summer is a whole other ball game.

Recent reviews of loan players in Europe are, in the main, poor. Rasmus sounds like he's having a torrid time, Aaronson not much better. Very few, if any, are wanted back and I can see several having to have contracts terminated by mutual agreement.

Until this is all resolved the term 'Clean slate' can not really be used, which I've seen used in various comments over the last few weeks.

Anyway that's next summers problem and we'll have to cross that bridge accordingly.

I don't mate, keep well out of it.

its a results game, fans are happy when winning, all other stuff ruins the enjoyment of the sport. seems crazy to me people would care so much, but there we go.. I'm sure you're happy

Maybe because there is a direct correlation between how a club is run and how it performs on the field 🤷🏻‍♂️

sometimes yeah sometimes no tho... like you said yourself, you think we'll walk the league, but spent half the summer in absolute bits

me however....

and its same outcome.. nothing either of us could of done, we're 5th, both support the same team, and both reckon we'll go up 1st.

makes total sense pal
