Aussies will need to win 6 out of 7 games in the group stages. Still possible. Could lose to England and beat everyone else. Not over yet and if they get the momentum they will be hard to stop.

Problem is they don't play the easier teams until the end of the group stages so could already be done by then.

Afghan and Bangladesh are their last 2 games.

They always beat us, NZ will be 50/50. They will beat Sri Lanka and the Dutch. Its only the England game they are not favourites in.

Record against NZ in WC pretty decent I think.

Having said that, this might be the worst aussie team I've seen at a WC. They are not that bad, it's just the other teams have been very very good.

It’s more likely the lose all three to England, New Zealand and Pakistan than it is they win two out of three. They look a mess.

Not so sure they'll beat NZ who look in top form.

Also really don't like using NRR for games like this because we're now just going to see Australia try and bat for 30 overs regardless of how many runs they get. Bangladesh did similar v us, makes for a boring game.

Bonus point for scoring 300? Bonus point for losing by 25 runs or less?

Not a fan of bonus points but yeah this game is dead and Aussies are on damage control here.

I'd just decide it by head to head instead, then use NRR only if we need a tie breaker

Yeah I think that’s a better way of doing it. The fixture list can really fack with NRR especially.

H2H is much better. Last world cup we got hammered by West Indies and never recovered from that but managed to finish on same points as NZ having beaten them in the group stages. 1 bad game killed us.

Last time we beat Oz in WC was in 99 but then they got revenge in the final

Although I'm not a fan of one big group stage anyway because it massively reduces the chances of an upset.

Would be better to have more teams and then do 2 groups of 6/8 with top 4 advancing to quarters.

Nah I like this format. Ideally you would have wanted the West Indies in it. Best play the best and top 4 progress.

Yeah I like the group format. Just don’t like NRR.
