Onana is basically like putting a Liverpool supporter in goal.

I am being serious with wanting De Gea back as he knows the players already. I see Ten Hag being sacked this year as he has weakened our squad.

Hafi, correct me if im wrong. But wasn't you one of DDG biggest critics last few years?

Yes, De Gea ain't great but he is much better than Onana. Ideally I would also buy Romero as well and get rid of Onana. Never seen a goalkeeper as bad as Onana before. He reminds me of Torres, looked great one year and terrible the next year.

Serious question…

Do United play the youngsters in the CL and put all their efforts now into the EFL cup?

Shouldn’t have let Butland go

One of the best things I've ever read on this forum 🤣

Hojlund looked great, shame he went offside for the disallowed goal. I think this season it is like all the bad luck you can get in one season. Its strange as the games we won it hasn’t been a good watch but the games we lost I felt we dominated for most of them.😂 Even the Bayern game we lost we gifted them 2 goals and Garnacho missed a sitter.

hafi calling for the return of de gea reminds me of the ending to an arthur c clarke short story:

“Look,” whispered Chuck, and George lifted his eyes to heaven. (There is always a last time for everything.)

Overhead, without any fuss, the stars were going out.

We’re no worse than you last season when you were missing a couple of players. Don’t forget that.

I've not seen a keeper perfect the art of looking small quite like this guy. Even when I caught matches from his Ajax days (and thought he looked alright), I assumed he was under 6ft for years.

This did feel like us swapping Courtois for Kepa to me except you did it by choice. A quality keeper with the odd brain f@rt is still a quality keeper, you "fixed" something that wasn't broken.

Nah De Gea was broken and has been broken for almost 5 years and thus needed fixing.

However, in true present day united fashion, we fixed it with something 10X worse on the face of it...

Onana can't be as bad as he has shown till now though. No keeper who has gotten to this level can

Actually agree with the OP. Onana is absolutely rubbish. His starting positions, the way he goes down early. Hasn’t made a single big save. He is utterly rubbish.

Onana is much better in United's goal than a Liverpool fan would be.

So, a few weeks back when you were all waxing lyrical about Onana, I remember saying, different keepers do different things well. You look at Ederson, and he's at City purely for his ball playing ability. But City concede very few chances in a game and dominate possession and position on the pitch. When United went for Onana, I warned that he is not the keeper for you at this time as you do not dominate and concede many chances. Also, Onana is too eccentric for a defence which needs solidity to build confidence. I don't think he's a terrible goalkeeper but he is not solid enough or consistent enough to provide what you need. You look at Liverpool, and they got Alisson, an all round keeper because they play a brand of football which often leaves them open, but his consistancy has given them solidity over the seasons. Everybody is going for ball-playing keepers now, and this is all well and good, but the art of stopping the ball going into the net is disappearing.

Ederson still makes saves… Onana doesn’t. There are better shot stoppers in the National League.

They don't.

He was never good enough at any stage of his 12 year pisstake at the club.

In the epl alone, there were always, at least, 15 better gks

And there is still a lot more than that now.

When United were run like a proper, ambitious, club they would have just put the right package together to transfer one of them in.

It's difficult to assess the current gk, because the defensive unit at MUFC is so full of non-united level players like Donotalot, Malarkey and Lingeralot.

The defensive unit needs to be completely overhauled with a couple of epl experienced players, and only Shaw, Maguire, Varane and Awb should remain.

The problem with that is it's already too late.

But you also have to see the bigger picture. Guardiola is often praised for attacking possession football but a case could be made that he has spent as much if not more on finding the right back 4 or 5 as he has spent in other areas. To dominate, you have to be solid. If you are solid, you can have Onana, De Gea or whoever in goal. United are not solid at this moment, so the keepers suffer a lot and the pressure on them often leads to mistakes and goals. I am surprised you didn't either re-sign De Gea or go for Raya or someone like that. You need a shot stopper because the majority of goals scored against United are at least fairly close range. You need to build a solid back 4 unit and to be fair, you have some decent defenders, but you need a couple of top class defenders. Once you are solid, you can build from there.
