Take the hint
I don't find horror films scary, the jump scenes rarely make me jump.
For shock factor, I would say the hills have eyes, original texas chainsaw massacre and Seven (when I first watched it on release).

I know the likes of Pulp Fiction, Goodfellas ain't horrors, I just mean to say while I was looked after, &
fairly sheltered as a 90s kid, my parents let me watch any type of film or video game as a youngster, I got to watch & play the lot

See I can't stand films like Texas chainsaw or the Halloween films, I find them boring as hell, but I will still jump even though I know the jump is coming 2 minutes in advance
Scariest films for me are woke nonsense like Barbie, Schindlers List & Lego Batman

It was the first time that a shark attack was ever really a thing. Nobody would go back into the water for years after that film.

Can't tell if serious or not!
I enjoy some horror films but they don't give me real scares to be honest.
For some reason the scene that's given me the creeps most is in signs when they see that TV footage of an alien in a Brazilian backstreet. That was quite unnerving even if it possibly wasn't the intention.
The Grudge
Japanese version
Repeatability tends to define how "scary" I find a horror film. There are many horror films I've watched several times and find entertaining. But some have such an effect on me that I can't re-watch them, even if it's a critically acclaimed film that I find well made. Like recently, I watched "Hereditary" and just deleted it immediately after due to how creeped out I was.

Yeah, it's random things like that for me too. The X-Files theme tune and the rabbit in Donnie Darko really creep me the fack out for some reason.
Jaws, well I saw that when I was young and I’m sure it did scare me, but I loved it instantly. The moment Chief Brody blowed up the Shark, I was cheering with him.
So I can’t say it’s the scariest.
I think back to Terminator and Alien.. that scared me.
Yup, think it’s them too…
Don’t really do horror, but Freddy Kruger had me going for a while..
Terminator 1 scared the bejesus out of me when I was about 8. I remember mum didn't talk to dad for a week when she found out he let me watch it.
It's the stupidest thing aswell, I thought because Sarah Connor was on the pavement that the terminator couldn't touch her with the truck he was driving. Because trucks aren't allowed on pavements!

Oh and the Vampire knocking the bedroom window in Salem's Lot too come to think of it. That creeped me out.
as I say about Jaws it was an at the time thing. It was a period that nobody really went the Cinema any more. Then came along Jaws and a budding young film director called Speilberg on the back of Duel and saved the movie business. People literally queued around the block to get in cinemas to watch it (ther was no prebooking in them days. You queued. And people stayed in their seats in the cinema to watch it again. The whole theatre would scream in horror when the guys head bobbed out of the broken hull of the boat when Brody and Hooper went out at night. Strange times but true.

When I first saw the Exorcist as a 10 year old it scared the pants out of me, so scared in fact I couldn't finish the film. I find it hilarious now especially the spider walk scene !

Anyone remember Millennium with Lance Henriksen,?
The Ring
It follows - faaack me that one got to me, it’s just the relentless pursuit.
For a while I hated when they started making the demons etc walk funny like they do in Gothica, but then every khunt and his granny did so after a while it had no effect.
Favourite “scary movie” is still Scream - gets better with each rewatching, a faaacking classic

But I echo the same sentiment, Terminator and Alien proper shook me up! I mean, to this day, I think the Alien is the scariest design of a creature.
Exactly, fear is fear of the unknown. When you have seen it a hundred times before it kinda looses its terror. As so many of these daft horror films with young American college kids being bumped of one by one. They become funny.
