price of cars in general has increased. I paid off my car (PCP deal) and got an offer from the dealer that was almost the same as my purchase price !

The things is.. I've been driving since the 1990s and I've never been in a crash.. so wtf have MY premiums increased..?

Charge the fookers that have crashed!

I assume this is with the same insurers as you had previous?

call up another couple, good chance they will be a good bit cheaper, then go back to the original quote armed with cheaper quotes and there is a very good chance they will reduce the quote maybe even match the others.

compare the market my friend

I sold a car with 85bhp, insurance was £650 a year. Moved onto a car with 300bhp. Sticking with the same Insurance company the quote was £2000 😂 went to compare the market and got a better quote for £600. So I'm now cheaper than I was with the old car, despite the fact my car is more than 3x as powerful. Insurance is a scam

New cars are also safer, more driving aids, braking distances better etc. so its a toss up, if the car is old enough however you can go down classic car insurance which normally tends to be a good bit cheaper.

Aye all doing the same. Cheapest I could find was some mob who don’t have a call centre, grand till you actually need to speak to someone which I did as getting a new car which wasn’t registered yet. Ford ended up being cheaper than all bar them (not on comparethemarket)

They said the don't "specialise" in performance cars so can't offer a cheaper quote. It's an S3 ffs, not a Ferrari ffs 😂

Ooft, glad my insurance is included as part of salary sacrifice deal.

Do insurance companies not usually pull this stunt with renewals? You always need to change provider year on year, at least that was my experience a few year ago

Try and get an insurance claim in Brechin just now

What happened to your car?

Erm, it floated away down the river

If you haven’t seen Brechin yet have a look at what’s happening am only 8 miles away and almost as bad here

Said to my missus today how many people took they car they hated into Brechin hoping for an easy write off?

Read in the paper last week the guy who's Tesla wouldn't start after some rain in Edinburgh and the garage want £17k to repair it!

Has to be said I'm really not convinced by battery cars especially until technology and quality is sorted. Had a career in automotive electronics so somewhat know how the game works.

Worse than useless.

Car insurance rates are largely linked to claim rates/payouts in your area, and surrounding ones, and the car type. If that car type is in lots of claims that year, it'll rocket.
What most don't realise is that if you add a named driver or even change the parking location, sometimes the policy will change underwriter and that in itself can save you a big chunk of money. Hasting direct and saga etc all use this system and the same vehicle and policy xover from the same company can have a big price difference just because of a small detail.
Also having your car on your drive can strangely get you a higher rate than having it parked on the road outside.
Insurance logic doesn't always seem to match common sense.

The insurance industry is taking an absolute pounding and those who provide car insurance also do many other insurance cover options.

They’re making huge losses so tightening up on payout limits, more “proof” required, more restrictions and higher premiums are to be expected, but like everything else; you need to shop around.

One key point is that you never question the cost of insurance when you have a claim to make.

And watch out for unintentional over or under insurance. That can dramatically affect and claim payout.

Young guy that worked for me was a bit of a boy racer. Not nuisance stuff but like a low end hot hatch and was quite precious about washing it every week and changing it regularly. Then one day he comes in with a big new Lexus RX350 worth 2x his annual pay, and he was getting married, new house and kid.

For starters a Lexus is just after a Jag and Honda for pipe and slippers territory and defo not hot hatch. Anyways, he'd taken out gap insurance and shortly before it was up his car was suspiciously stolen and burnt out in a field. Neds generally do that near where they can make a hasty getaway, no? Story was he'd left the keys on a sill at an open window - who does that?

Anyways he got the full replacement value the jammy cant.
