Tbh, if he doesn't get recognised for more it's only because of the anti-PL bias
It’s the cult of Messi at work that’s all
Not sure why it is a debate. Messi is the greatest of all time without a shadow of a doubt. Amazing player and for basically being an attacking midfielder he has 800+ goals in his career, it is ridiculous.
The world cup win ended any debate on the matter.

Agreed. He’s Numero Uno.
I had Pele at the top for the longest time, and for a few years I had Cristiano above Messi as well (between 2016-2020), but Messi’s international team dominance the last few years has sealed GOAT status for him.
Difficult to be classified as such when only being the second best player from your country of birth.
Subjective awards mean nothing in the great scheme of sport. Because opinions are just that.
There is nothing wrong in not being the "greatest of all time" - which is a ridiculous label considering the temporal component of that phrase - but to miss the reality of what would be required to have that ridiculous label attached, is definitely wrong
Maradona was great, he also won 28 fewer trophies and scored 534 fewer goals.
Who over the age of 12 gives a cluck? Go out and touch some grass.
Where’s the greatest of them all?
Nketiah 🤣
He wants to get his LiquidGenius all over Messi
Messi - Ronaldo debate was never really a debate. It was used to make game more interesting and it really was. El clasico now isn't what it was in their time. But anybody with common sense knows Messi is far greater than Ronaldo.
Messi is the best player of all time, Ronaldo is the second best player of all time. It really is that simple
He might be the GOAT but he ain't my goat.
I always did enjoy watching Ronaldinho and Zidane in their prime more than Messi.
Ronaldinho especially was just unlike anyone I had ever seen in football before in my life. He just made football so much fun to watch

Messi won more Ballon D'or than those combined. Its the FIFA franchise at fault,
For me Maradona was worth every penny at his height ( about 2 feet)!
There's a clip of all the Sky pundits, post UCL final in 2011. Messi was just 24 and already they're all talking about him potentially as the GOAT. That was 12 years ago! Since then he's gone on to win another UCL, numerous league titles, domestic cups, continental cups and everything with Argentina.
For me even 5 years ago, the whole Messi vs Ronaldo thing never made sense.
The easiest way to answer that now finished debate was just by asking who the better footballer was. The answer without a doubt was always Messi.
After winning those trophies with Argentina, the Ronaldo debate became dead.
Messi is easily, undoubtedly, the best footballer of all time.

Mad that he was getting those kind of plaudits at 24.
The likes of Haaland, Mbappe, Jude, Vini Jr and so on will never ever be mentioned as the GOAT by the time they're all 24.
Funnily enough, Redknapp is the only one in that clip questioning him; Redknapp now rates Messi as the GOAT.

Not really
Messi was the GOAT between 2007-2011. After that the rivalry with Ronaldo ruined what he could have been and he had to become more about just goals as the general public are stupid and made it a numbers thing. Like how they had to dumb down a Question of Sport to reach a wider, modern audience and compete with Love Island.
Anyway, Messi 2007-2011, Ronaldinho 2004-2006 and Maradona 1986-1989 were probably the peak of football. Ronaldo is more of a consistent robot goal machine. Also Pele had good longevity but don't know enough to know when he was at his peak and what level that was compared to others.
Maradona > Messi but only just. Maradona single handedly (quite literally) won Argentina the World Cup by himself and then dragged them to another final 4 years later.
He turned Napoli from the down trodden, beaten club it was into title winners, he shone at Barca and nearly played for Sheffield United.
Messi is great but he played in the greatest Barca side ever, then the PSG juggernaut. He was sensations at the last World Cup but so was Di Maria and they had a very sturdy defence.
Maradona shades it for me.
Ronaldo is not even in the question, great player but those 2 put him in the shade

Messi was just as dominant in Qatar as Maradona in 86 tbh.
Both played with workmanlike sides with them as the only elite star.
Di Maria was a star previously but in 2022 he was old and injured. He didn’t even play that many games in Qatar. Even in the Final, his one big performance, he got subbed after 60 mins because his fitness wasn’t there.
