A new striker in January

He will cost a fair bit more than £60m this January.

Whatever he costs it’ll be worth it

I think Hojlund has been our best signing since Lissandro. But I do like strikers working in pairs so am in favour of signing Toney.
I'm also in favour of two wingers, which gives us a 4-2-4
my favourite set up.
But do we have two midfielders that can cope. I have high hopes for Mainoo, but where's Robbo when you need him. Is there one out there. Or an Ince or Keane would do.

On a 5 year deal getting £300k a week.

Is Toney actually that good?

posted on 2/11/23

Would be risky but he'd slot right into the team and accumulate a few goal involvements in high stakes games when the chips are down

No point getting someone in if our creative forces are not, erm, creating! Get two top quality wide players.

How do we stop opposition players have the freedom of OT and our midfield and literally walk through us? The spine of the team is missing!

Also, when was the last time a mid term transfer worked for us? Might as well wait until the summer. With a record transfer concluded you really think they'll make serious funds available in January? Very unlikely Robb!

It’ll be Vincent Aboubakar.

Yeah, scored 20 league goals last season and isn’t just a finisher. He can hold the ball up. Takes a mean free kick too. Gives us something different to Hojlund.

Either way it would be absolute madness to rely on Hojlund all season.

Hojlund, while he hasn’t set the world on fire other than one game, has still been one of our best players.

What we need is a midfielder that can actually run and progress the ball.

You may have heard of a guy called Bruno who saved our season

No doubt he’s a good player but he’s almost 28, would cost a fortune and is a level below top class imo.

I reckon if we do pay big for him it would be another expensive underwhelming signing.

Over paid for the kid u got this summer but there's a player there. Rapid as fu5k too! Problem was it always gonna be silly to get him as the only real striker. He's still young and been thrown in the deep end. You have 2 wingers that cut in and don't really feed a striker like him. Just another example of some strange decisions at United.

New GK and Mount could've easily been avoided and CM should have been the real priority along with 2 strikers. Hoijlund fee plus 10-20m and that's a reliable striker ready for the PL, if scouted well. 2nd striker then could've been a far cheaper option.

Will be interesting to see if Toney does want to leave in January to someone like Arsenal, or whether he’ll want to try and hit the ground running again with Brentford with the Euros coming up.

He’s 27 and has just had 8 months off so isnt exactly a burnt out old man. That age is the perfect profile for us in terms of an experienced striker coming in.

I'd worry about signing Toney given the cost, his baggage and the step up in pressure.

Also, has he conquered his gambling addiction?

Yeah, he was still very good when the crowds came back though. It’s utterly bizarre that you think he wasn’t a successful mid term signing.

You’d think the answer is yes considering the spotlight will be on him now and that he’s lost a load of playing time so will surely be determined to not repeat his mistakes.

Not denying that, I am applying context which you are conveniently neglecting. Besides, no money so this is nothing more than wishful thinking. We won't reinforce until the summer.
