Come on 52, our best team does not have Maguire in it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think it does at the moment. Varane hasn't had a good season and was awful on Wednesday.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Varane being poor is still better than Maguire.

We are in the mire now guys. This is now a long long way back. We might even go 2-3 seasons outside of the CL places actually whilst we rebuild.

…….

Not necessarily. Look at Spurs.

True enough

It always has to be the glass half empty with some of these guys.

I'd switch out Eriksen for McTominay, although that seems to be an unpopular opinion for United fans. Too unbalanced with both Fernandes and Eriksen in the same team. Otherwise agree that's your best team, even with Rashford on the right. Garnacho looks like he's got something about him, Antony is awful and Sancho is a mystery considering how well he was doing and his confidence, directness and pace before he signed for United.

If Maguire is in your best team that it's even worse that I thought.

Six of one and half a dozen of the other with Eriksen and McT.

I would prefer to have neither.

Did you not dislike that midfield last season because of how easily it got overran? Casemiro and Eriksen being another year older doesn’t help.

For what ETH is trying to do I think this one would be our best team.

Onana

Dalot (although AWB is better defensively think Dalot is better on the ball usually and infield)
Varane
Martinez
Shaw

Amrabat (need legs in midfield, not as good as Casemrio but more energy)
Mount (the Eriksen role)
Bruno

Antony (for all his faults think ETH likes the discipline and ball retention he offers)
Hojlund
Rashford (he needs to track back as well as Garnacho is seemingly doing)

Which is why I have a midfield three as opposed to a midfield two.

There's a lot to like about this, although I'd say AWB is one of the few positives for us at the moment.

I thought this was the position Mount was being signed for, to be honest. Not so sure now. Not sure Ten Hag knows either 😞

MU52… didn’t you say a few days ago that Bruno and Rashford should be dropped? And now they’re in your starting 11!

Get a grip old boy!

The manager should be trying to make us tough to beat right now. That should be priority 1, 2 and 3. Go back to basics and you have to start with a solid defence.

Obviously this is tough because of injuries but we have a few players back now so he needs to try and find a settled back 4 and also make us solid in CM. Give the team something to build from.

A keeper (but never coco)

AWB
Varane
Maguire
Shaw

Garnacho
Fernandes
Mount
Sancho

Martial
Hojlund

442 is the only way out of this mess + getting back to basics

Amrabat has "a shout" for a role but needs to out perform some better current players

Never starting with dalot, lindelof, mctominay and/or rashford will also help

Ah great, someone else posted what I would do o don’t have to do all the spacing.

The above for me. I think Bruno out right doesn’t work and Mount would do better and it would keep Bruno where he is best and Rashford.

I don’t think we’ve seen this really, have we? I would love to but don’t think we will.

I think Mount on the right would work better linking up with Bruno to Hojlund or just direct to Hojlund.

Good team Berba 👍🏻

lots of rumours on SM (bullchit probably) of Casemiro leaving United in January to Saudi Arabia. like there are with loads of past it players. Would be a good move for United if true.

posted on 11/11/23

If we can get a nice fee for either Casemiro or Varane then we should snap it up. Maybe their form might return but we’d be better off replacing them with younger and hungrier (on the pitch) players.

posted on 11/11/23

This is difficult because you'll get different sides if you pick players whose highest level has been better than their rivals for the XI or if you pick players whose attributes are complementary.

For instance, Amrabat hasn't been as good as Casemiro has been (last season) as a DM, but I'd like to have a DM who (like Amrabat) is more adept at showing for the ball, moving it around, with a good sense of space and how to construct a spell of possession. So I'm kind of favouring Amrabat but with an asterisk and footnote that it depends on him proving he's good enough. Similarly, I think an Amrabat/Mount combination could give us a better structure and a better total score when we consider the mix of technical ability and speed/stamina we need in the midfield, but it's also fair to say that Mount hasn't proven himself yet.

I do think the absence of Shaw + Martinez magnifies all the other issues in the team. Bring them back and my concerns about Varane's quality on the ball would be greatly reduced, and there would be less pressure on the midfield, which would in turn help the attack.
