Really wish they left the Euros as 16 teams. Looking at those pots, the group stages are going to be an absolute bore.

To clear up the confusion. Seeding is based on your performance in the qualifying. This is a fair system so that you benefit from your recent performances instead of historical performance. It should also mean that the current best teams are top seeds etc. This is better than having a crap Italy team as top seeds just cos they were good a few years ago. Now they are not, so are seeded where they should be.

It also helps alleviate the issue of the endless cycle of big countries getting easy draws.

I get basing pot 1 on how teams did in qualifying - that makes sense, but it’s just nuts after that. Absolutely no way Italy should be pot 4 whilst Albania, Scotland and Austria are pot 2.

Italy came second in a relatively tough group that included previous finalists England and a decent Ukraine side - Pot 4. Slovenia and Slovakia finish 2nd in weak ass groups - Pot 2 - its makes no sense

Sorry to harp on, but the other flaw with this is that they’ve based seedings on how teams do in qualifying, whilst simultaneously basing the playoff spots on how teams do in the Nations league - meaning Estonia can still qualify for Euro 2024 despite finishing bottom of their group with 1 point following 7 losses and one win - if they make it through they will be in the same pot as Italy.

So by your logic, if let's say Slovenia get through their group at the euros by finishing 2nd/3rd, but you think they had an easy group and Italy go out because they had England, Denmark and Netherlands in their group, Italy should go through instead of Slovenia because although Italy didn't do very well in their group, they used to be good a few years ago?
