There is room for all forms of cricket. The IPL has rejuvenated interest in India / Pakistan / Bangladesh especially in recruitment of young players. It is also the attention-span theory that the media are aware of - a result in several hours instead of several days.
Regarding batting skills. you either have them or not and there will always be the Openers, Middle Order and Rabbits (or Ferret in my case).
What will young bowlers learn from bowler-friendly wickets? They need exactly the opposite to hone their skills.
Or maybe we should just join the schoolgirls and play Rounders\
