Maksi, how do you know what colour pants he wears?
Seriously though, am wondering if this might be a really significant victory for Murray and for Nadal
I think the US Open damaged Nadal and don't think we'd have seen this result if nadal hadn't suffered such ineffectiveness of game v Nole in the US Open final.
It might have given Murray the chance to prove to himself that he can beat Nadal when he keeps his focus even after losing the first set.
Great win for Murray!
Haha
Who do you think would win if Nadal and Murray played a grand slam match tomorrow? Long may Murray continue to win such great tournaments like Bangkok, Japan and Cincinnati.
I was thinking a long the same lines Jonty. Andy Murray is doing a great job representing our country singlehandedly and as long as he keeps winning tournaments like this then it will only give him more and more self belief when it comes to the really big tournaments.
As for Nadal, he is starting to lose regularly now and it looks like he is on the slippery slope already, which suits me down to the ground.
This was a great weekend for British tennis fans? and I think his underpants were navy blue with a white cross on
good article Maksi mate. oor Andy played some amazing stuff this morning. that backhand crosscourt floored Rafa. brilliant stuff and i'm sure it'll go a long way to giving him the belief that he is more than a match for Nadal.
and Modric, you really are a tool. no constructive comment to make, childish stupid wee boy
Good comments as usual Pol and you really hit the nail on the head with that last couple of lines. What does Andy Murray have to do to please these people?
You and I can just enjoy his tennis.
P.S. With regards to Modric, when did Spurs ever win a major championship? Who would you put your money on, Andy Murray or Spurs? Don't make me laugh.
yep top stuff maksi mate. wish there was more like yourself and jonty on this site. i mainly go on the scottish football boards but i love a debate on the tennis too and there's barely a sole on this
Well Pol, know what you mean, would be ncie if there were more contributors here, but got to start somewhere!
In tesponse to the quetion about Murray v Nadal in a Slam...right now I would fancy Murray, unless it was the Final, then I would err for Nadal as Murray still has to conquer his nerves of Slam finals.
Hi all,
A new member here but was a member of old 606. An Andy Murray fan here and he has a great couple of weeks. If he can retain his title in Shanghai this week he will become the new world No.3 in the rankings and on this years form alone that would be fully deserved.
Welcome back buddy Nige Weir here and we are still having to be patient whilst Andy tries to figure out how to win a major championship, but as usual, it doesn't bother me if he manages it or not. He is playing great, winning tournaments and still doing his best. What more can a person ask for of another human being?
Cheers for the welcome. I have no doubt that the only thing stopping Andy winning slams is the sheer legendary quality standing in his way - Federer (many rate as greatest of all-time), Nadal (many have tipped to become the greatest of all-time) and world No.1 Novak Djokovic who has been close to unbeatable this year. If Andy had been plying his trade in the early years of this millennium then I believe he'd have a slam win or more under his belt
That is exactly what I have been saying for a long time now. He is trying to beat living legends, and it's just not easy for him. What annoys me most, is not the fact he can't win a major but the way everybody calls him a choker and a loser because he can not beat these guys. Andy Murray is a fantastic tennis player and gives me ten times more pleasure than Rusedski and Henman ever could, and we have waited years to get a player like this. At least we can enjoy his victories, and there are very many.
Andy Murray is on a different level to Tim Henman by some distance now.
Henman deserves credit as he did superbly well in his career living with intense media pressure.
Andy may never win a slam but that will never make him a choker as we have seen him come back from the dead before in many matches in his career. He is one of a handful of men to have made the semis (or better) in all four slam events in a calendar year, a triple slam finalist, a multiple slam semi-finalist and is joint seventh in the most successful Masters Cup players of all-time. Plenty more to be proud of even if he never wins a slam.
Exactly Cal, that is a very impressive CV already and I am quite sure that he is going to get better too. What I like about the guy is that he gives us a good run in so many competitions, and as you rightly pointed out, that includes Majors too. I like everything about the guy, and his passion on court only impresses me even more. He is trying to win, and where many can not abide his behaviour on occasions, well I love it
For consistency he is top notch - Andy Murray has reached the semi-finals (or better) at six of the last eight slam events.
"Our boy wonder"??????
Would it be fairer to say that this competition can be won using a tank thats not full ??Un-like say Wimbledon???
You know where you need a good full brimming tank to get to the end of the journey? Just an observation thats all lets not start throwin our rackets out the pram.
Anyway credit where its due well done Tim lad.
You weren't impressed at all that he beat, and bageled Nadal in the final of any sort of tennis competition? I know I was.

Sorry I THINK therefore I am "Polb"
I have bet my house and all its contents that he won't win at Wimbledon 2012 its such a fore-seen that you need to get on it now in order to get a fare return.
And I should know I've made loads on this losing bet
What are the odds on Britains number 2 winning Wimbledon next year? You see where I am coming from here, don't you?
he may well not win it plank but i can guarantee one thing, your mummy won't let you sell even a little item from your bedroom never mind mortgage her house.
silly wee boy
This last comment above????Mmmm!!!!
If we look closely at it yes your first point is correct "he may not well win it plank" BUT the second comment??
How can you comment on ME. You don't even know if I have a Mother or Father, you don't even know if I am male or female?????
My original comment was based on Murray not having a big enough tank to win a major.
Fact is he has not won a major.Nearly winning one or coming close counts for nothing does it?
"silly wee boy" are you sure about that I'm smelling a wiff of scottishness with that comment
yes i'm scottish plank just like the only male tennis player from these isles to reach a mens singles slam final in the past 30 odd yrs
oh sorry "come on tim" that cheer you up a bit?
I see what your saying about the only male tennis player from your isles to reach a mens singles slam final in the past 30 odd years but then what????You don't give any detail about the outcome of the only male tennis player from your Isles to reach a mens singles slam final in the past 30 odd years!!!!!! Strange that!!!!
Oh don't tell me I get it silly wee meThe red light had been on and the tank was dry!!! Oh well maybe next time eh!!! whats the saying "Its the taking part that counts and thats all that matters."
Anyway a toast Polly lets raise our glasses tonight and have a wee dram "To wee Andy next years Wimbledon mens CHAMPION if he can put a full shift in"
Hope that cheers you up a bit
PLANK,
You need a lesson in tennis so here goes. The only reason Andy hasn't won a slam is because of those standing in his way. You don't seem to grasp the sheer quality and quantity.
Roger Federer has stood in his way and Fed is widely as the greatest player of all-time and has won the most slams in tennis history.
Rafael Nadal is another to stand in his way and already has won ten slams and was tipped by many to surpass Federer's achievements and become the greatest of all-time himself and although that looks less likely now he is still one of the all-time greats.
Novak Djokovic has been dominant this year winning three slams and has been virtually unbeatable in the sport this year (Andy is one of only two people to beat him this year) and is already a multiple slam winner.
Andy has had the task of facing these players in his slam finals whereas Federer, Nadal and Djokovic all got off the mark in slams against far easier opponents. Comprehende now PLANK?
