Quite amazing what they did today to Man City
A lot of the talk is about adding a clinical striker in January but we are desperate for defenders.
With Tomi now out for six weeks with his perennial calf injury and the Asian cup in January, we are down to three CBs and two full backs players in a position not natural to them till at least end of February.
An injury to either Saliba or Gabriel M and our title charge is done.
Tomiyasu shouldn't get a new deal in my opinion. The guy can't keep fit. With Timber and Partey already out long-term, we can't afford more defensive injuries.
As for Villa, they definitely surprised me yesterday. I thought they were very lucky and poor against an injury-ravaged Spurs, but they were fantastic against City and should have won by 3 goals. Still believe it's more about City having an absolute mare than how good Villa are.

down to 3 CBs??? We’ve only got 1 fit 1 who’s missed the last 3 1/2 games!
Villa were sensational but City had no midfield really. Stones is just back from injury and Lewis who is a a talent on the ball but they just steamrolled through him and ran at the back 4. At times it felt like they couldn't believe how easy it was to get in dangerous positions over and over again.
I was watching with hope that they wont be able to replicate that performance on saturday. I think Rice will make a big difference in midfield as he always seems to be at the moment. Villa aren't great away from home but they're a force at home, I think the City victory was their 14th home win in a row in the league.
City had these type of performances last season as well, but Gundogan and Mahrez used to pop up with a goal or two that gave a result they did not deserve. City lost two of their best 'pressure' players. And De Bruyne on top.
Emery is a good manager and Villa are very confident at home. It will be a great game on Sat.

They had Akanji and Stones in midfield, with Lewis further up, and a pretty sturdy back 3 of Gvardiol, Dias and Walker. Should have been more than enough to stop Villa overrunning their defense. Also have no facking clue why Guardiola bothered buying the likes of Matheus Nunes, Kovacic and Kalvin Phillips if he's not going to use them, and chooses to play several players out of position. Just very weird decisions all around.

They have other absences apart from defense, which is what I was referring to. Your defensive problems had a lot to do with Romero and Udogie's suspensions. You only had the Dutch guy out injured. Likes of Bissouma also got themselves suspended recently. Your players should probably tone down the aggression.

I know Akanji occasionally pushed up but because they were being overwhelmed every time Villa came forward, he was more often than not alongside Dias which meant Lewis had to drop into CM and he looked pretty weak. But yeah, odd to have those midfielders who are all decent players and not start any of them.
It'll be interesting to see how we fare against them. I think Jorginho may have started if Tomiyasu was fit bit it'll surely be Rice at 6 and then the only decision to make with Tomiyasu out is whether its Trossard or Havertz in midfield. Think I'd go Havertz to give us another long ball outlet as City really struggled to get out of their half.
I'm concerned. Villa look a threat and Emery has a bone to pick with us. Plus, our biggest weaknesses are all defensive and very easy to exploit if you pay attention.
Funnily enough, our defence is very good. And that is backed up by the statistics. What happened against Luton was an exception, in my opinion, caused by a lack of preparation by the coaches combined with poor attitude by the players. It was not helped by Ben White and Kiwior coming in after weeks of inaction.
Someone mentioned further up that we should not renew Tomiyasu's contract. That is such a tough one as he is still relatively young and his injury record might get better. Partey is the biggest disappointment for me as he is one of my fave players to watch but man plays 25 games a season. Anything over 30m and I would sell.
We are in desperate need for another LB in Jan (loan) or the summer as Tierney is getting sold and Tomi is more cover across multiple positions.
There are rumours we will sell Kiwior maybe as early as Jan. So there must be a plan to bring in another left-footed centre back and use Timber as cover for full-back position. That would allow Tomi to back up right-back and centre back exclusively.
